This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'd be curious to learn more about your 'variant' at some point.

I voted "Yes / NO"

  • Dungeon & Dragons
    • Cartoon = Hell yeah
    • AD&D 1e = Yeah
    • AD&D 2e = Yeah
      • Dark*Sun = Hell yeah
    • D&D 3e+ = No.

  • D20
    • D&D 3e = No
    • M&M2e = Yeah
    • Iron Heroes = Yeah

Really gys, the "D20" aspect of this qiestion needs to be removed. Since D&D is much more than D20. AD&D2e, AD&D1e, D&D 1e all not D20. But you break down the poll for D20 reasons

Question should be :
  • Are You A Fan of Dungeons & Dragons ? (any version)
  • Yes
  • No
or
  • Are You A Fan of Dungeons & Dragons ? (Which version)
  • D&D 1e
  • AD&D 1e
  • AD&D 2e
  • D&D 3e+
I've been reading and reflecting recently.

So yes, and yes. It's not for everything, but it scratches the same itch filling up all the little dots in Fable did. The itch that, if unchecked, leads to those "thousand years of power!!" + taser fiascos you read about.

I like to use d20 when I'm gonna hit him so hard his fucking ghost will die, and then that ghost will go into a coma, and his future descendants in alternate timelines will be born with bruises.
Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.

Its interesting in the context of my earlier question, because it shows that in reality only a distinct minority of this site are both anti-D&D and anti-D20.

Pundit... "Not a fan of X" DOES NOT EQUAL "Anti-X".

While I'm not a fan of D&D or D20, that doesn't mean I hate them. It just means all things being equal, I'd rather play something else. The funny thing is, this doesn't invalidate your point at all. In fact it enhances it. Almost no-one here is "Anti-D20" or "Anti-D&D."

i like d&d and d20.  i prefer basic/rc d&d and ad&d 1/e.  the more i think about it i wouldn't consider myself a "fan" as that implies a certain amount of enthusiasm that i don't possess.

i'd probably change my fan vote in the other thread from yea to nay, come to think of it.

i may consider being a fan of the above editions, but since the poll didn't differentiate i'll have to stick with nay

Yes, this is true, it was a poor choice of words on my part. Of course the people who ARE anti-d20 will try to use these statistics to claim that anyone who voted "don't like" are all Anti.

You're right, of course.  Someone, somewhere, is going to make that association.  Just like someone, somewhere, is going to make a link between isolated instances of mentally disturbed kids who go on homicidal shooting sprees and the fact that they also played D&D.  You don't see either of those types of yahoos hanging around on this site, though, do you?

On the other hand, this sort of thing bears a certain resemblance to the false dichotomies you set up over in your recent Amber thread.  So, pot, kettle, black, shut-the-fuck-up.

O'Borg

I'm not a D&D fan.
My sole experience came from what I think was an example game from the back of an old basic D&D rulebook (red box edition, possibly), and already being well versed in Tunnels & Trolls and Dragon Warriors (mechanically superiour IMHO) I didnt think much of it.
I also got the idea from somewhere that you had to carry sacks of gold around or you'd lose all your experience

I'm also not a D20 fan, simply because its not a system I've ever used or had need to use, and until recently 90% of the comments I heard about D20 were negative.

Once somebody makes a poll with an option for being an OGL fan, but not a D&D or d20 fan, I'll finally be able to vote "yes." :(

hgjs

Yes for D&D, no for D20.

D&D 3/3.5 is probably the best roleplaying game ever made.  Most d20 games, however, aren't nearly as good.

Blue Devil

I answered No and No.   Not into D&D and I dislike D20 and will not play it
