This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The OGL is political, too?

I thought it was financial.

You know, like, "hey, when setting books and adventures come out, we sell more corebooks, but the setting and adventure books themselves hardly ever make any money. How can we get someone else to write the setting and adventure books and lose money, while we keep getting the boost in sales to the corebooks from their existence? Hey... OGL!"

I'm a d20 fan, but I don't think the system can cover everything well. Personally, I think that d20 Star Wars has failed miserably to capture the feel of the movies (and before you jump on that statement, no, I haven't looked at SAGA yet so I can't evaluate it). D20 works with some games and genres, and doesn't with others - but whether it works or not depends on how the d20 mechanics have been individually adapted to the games.
"Meh."

No, I'm not a d20 fan.

This question is very general. I don't like D&D nor d20, but it didn't stop me from playing D&D. I didn't have fun, but I suspect it was not D&D's fault. And I didn't dislike A Game of Thrones d20. But if I had to choose between yes and no, I'd say no.

The d20 licence idea was genius. Let others write supplements, while you sell the corebooks. Genius.

Except it didn't work that way, and Wizards still pumps out shit tons of supplements every year, and by and large sells more of them than anybody else.

OGL was more of a maneuver to spread their market influence past D&D itself and into the third-party realm.

I like C&C, but I'm not really a d20 fan. So I voted no.

I´m a D&D 3.5 fan, and I actively dislike most other D20 endeavours (´xept Spycraft 2.0).
D&D stuff by third parties under the d20 label is also totally rad.

I am definitely a fan of the REAL and first d20 system (yes it was called "D20 system"):

What about d20 Traveller?
"Meh."

I'm a D20 fan. I like the idea of a modular, open system -- with a bit more crunch and less wacky dice than FUDGE.

Never was a big fan of D&D, though. It's the default fantasy D20, so I play it, but most of the conventions and traditions don't do much for me.

I am trying to think of how that would work.

I voted no, FWIW. I don't actively dislike D20, but neither would I seek it out in preference to X other system.

Depends... are you talking about a fan of running it or playing it? for me its a differnt answer depending on which side of the GM Screen I'm on

I have to say "NO". I dislike many of the styles of play for D&D3e itself, and the groups themselves who cling to them.

On the other hand, I will play in d20 game from time to time or even run one to try something out. Alot of the d20 fan base will turn many away from d20 also. +3 magic sword, +whatever. Bah. Magic missiles bah.

I am going to try Iron Heroes out to see if that version fits my mentality better however. But I can not say I'm a Fan in general. Though I like M&M2e, but I can not really call that a d20 game anymore than I can call Palladium's Megaversal System as D20 game.

D20 is D&D3e+. Varient Systems such as SW-SAGA, M&M2e, True20, etc...I can not classify as D20. Different rules are different rules. They might be d20 BASED, but are not D20.
