This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Poll: Are you a D20 Fan?

Its simplistic, I know, but to settle a debate put up over on the Pundit's forum. I wanted to know exactly what proportion of theRPGsite's members are D20 Fans.

So here it is, a simple yes or no. Would you say you're a fan of D20? Saying yes doesn't mean you can't like other games, or even that you play D20 regularly. Its just saying that you are generally a fan of D20.

What do you mean by "D20"?  Games that are "officially" D20 (D&D 3e, D20 Modern, SW, etc.)?  Or are you including OGL games as well (True20, Conan, C&C, M&M, etc.)?

Yes. That said, I stop short of being a d20 zealot. I like it for a lot of things (notably high fantasy and episodic modern horror), though not everything. I prefer other systems for certain genres (e.g., wuxia) and genre modes (e.g.,low fantasy).  Occassionally, I even prefer other systems for high fantasy and modern episodic horror, just to do something different. Overall, though, yes -- I like d20 and support its proliferation by throwing several thousand dollars at d20 publishers annually.

...the question is not: "Are you a d20 fan?"

The question is: "Are you a BIG fan of d20, where d20 does NOT include D&D?"

Of course, you could always vote yes just to spite me. :D

I find zealotry for d20 just as distasteful as zealotry *against* d20.

It reminds me of the Mac/PC/Linux war, or the Left-wing/right-wing war. I must have missed something about human nature, but I can't comprehend why people have this silly need to compartmentalize everything.

Beat me to it.  This is jsut more of Pundit's coattail riding.  totally loaded question.

The D20 aftermarket is a pale shadow of D&D proper.  Even WotC's own spinoff products pale in comparison to the big boy D&D, and lumping them all together is meaningless.

Not to mention that it presents a total false dichotomy as well in the area of taste.  I don't like "d20".  I like D&D.  I really don't care for the aftermarket houserule stuff.

Well no; in that thread my original point to Walker was that people on here are big fans of D20 in general, INCLUDING D&D 3.x. Or rather, that most people on here are favorable toward one kind of D20/OGL or another.

So yes, this poll question includes D&D fandom, if you're a D&D 3.x fan. Or any other D20 or OGL game.

You know, it really doesn't do you any favors to keep broadcasting your lack of reading comprehension skills.

I mean, sure, I think it's funny, but it's usually not the kind of thing one makes a point to drive home to the audience on countless occasions.

Mainly for D&D, yes. D20 Call of Cthulhu and D20 Deadlands just didn't work. And we really really tried. So, because I adore D&D, I had to vote yes.

Nope, not a fan. In fact, having d20 attached to a game is pretty much an instant turn-off for me at this point.

I agree.  This is a very baited poll.  I'm a big fan of D&D and Star Wars and they happen to use D20, so I'd be obliged by your standards to say "yes".  Of course, the rest of D20 products and supplements I'm indifferent to.  Then again 3.5 isn't even my favorite edition of D&D.

Good luck trying to unite the masses against the swine under the banner of D20.
