This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

"Points Of Light" Campaign Settings - Examples? Think of one or two?

I think Warhammer's Old World qualifies, but with points of light becoming smudges of grey localised around the PCs. It's not a perfect fit, but when I think of the Empire the image of rutted, bandit haunted roads wending their way through ancient, chaos infested forests immediately springs to mind.

The cities aren't bastions of virtue by either, but compared to what plots and gibbers in the wilds they're still (somewhat) safe havens.

Any other Science Fiction setting examples?

Well, RIFTS, obviously.  Also, Europe (especially England) during multiple occasions in the last 500 years.

Pretty much any Western setting would qualify, most of all from a Native American perspective.

The Bughunters setting from Amazing Engine is very dark, with a handful of Points of Light.

The Orrorsh setting from TORG is a good Points of Light setting, though the Points of Light are few and have more than a hint of darkness within them.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.
