This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I always wanted to play in Iraq.  I was never in camp for long enough to join the game though.

We did have a cool game in fort Sill though.

Nah, tossing threats around online and talking about how you'd beat people up is being an Internet Tough Guy. The military references are just icing on the cake. Like the BPD diagnostic criteria, they are alone nothing significant, it's the whole package. The DMS-V will include this,

Formal diagnostic criteria for Walter Sohchak
4 or more of the following criteria present over some time
1. extreme sensitivity to perceived slights and quick to anger
2. offering hyperbolic threats
3. obesity
4. frequent and irrelevant references to two or more of Merika, Duh Constitushun, Mah Freedum and ownership of firearms
5. frequent and irrelevant references to previous military service of self or family members
6. references to "knowing people who can get things done, if you know what I mean"

I don't know if you're fat, but you fulfil 4 and perhaps 5 of the 6, so I hereby diagnose you as a sufferer of Walter Sobchak. It does seem to be a peculiarly American condition, the Sobchak, but I think other countries have their own versions, replace #4 with "football and foreign bastards" and you get the Basher Bruce, the Aussie version.

I'm not insulting you, I'm mocking you with parody. cf your compatriot Larry Flynt and the story of the reverend fucking his mother in the outhouse. Walter was funny as shit, and so are you. And neither of you would understand why, because you take yourself very, very seriously. Which of course invites more mockery, just ask Pundit. As with Pundit, I speak of course only of your online persona, which may or may not bear any resemblance to how you present yourselves in person (indignant bluster tends to be dampened in person, I find).

Taking this once again back to the thread's topic, players who take themselves very, very seriously tend to be not much fun at the game table. You can make fun of them a bit and that's a good laugh at the time, but one day they pull a piece or threaten to smack someone in the head or something, and things kinda go downhill from there. I've not yet had to ask one formally to leave, but usually they'll storm off in righteous nerdfury.

Your roll, Walter.

Except, I've done none of that except in your own imagination.  If you have to lie for a diagnosis, then you're being insincere.  Please, grow the fuck up.

Quote from: Kyle Aaron;9173911. extreme sensitivity to perceived slights and quick to anger
I'm pretty nice.

Quote from: Kyle Aaron;9173912. offering hyperbolic threats
I've made no threats.  Show me where I made a threat, please

Quote from: Kyle Aaron;9173913. obesity
I weigh 187 pounds at 5'9".

I own them.  So?  Hoplophobia is a sad condition.

Quote from: Kyle Aaron;9173915. frequent and irrelevant references to previous military service of self or family members
Yeah, I served.  So?  If I mention playing while deployed, or being stationed somewhere- it's 'gloating'?  Wow, I knew you diggers were useless but I didn't know you were insecure.

Quote from: Kyle Aaron;9173916. references to "knowing people who can get things done, if you know what I mean"
Well, we all know someone who claims this.

You really aren't fit to diagnose anything, because I meet 2 of them.  Sorry you're threatened by someone mentioning a career choice, I guess?  I guess in your land, they teach you to be ashamed of it.

Except since your semi-diagnosis was mostly fabrications, you're projecting something you want me to be.  You're simply another guy, that takes offense at something he can't be or just doesn't like.  Dude, it's okay.  There's no women on this thread.  And as much as Bren is obsessed with my penis- he's not getting laid out of this, either.  Don't worry about credibility- you have none.

Your roll, Walter.

If this is the sort of person you associate with, with the way that you get triggered and fabricate things- this guy might be the best thing to happen to you.

About half my gaming buddies have been veterans, including me. The guy that always talked about his status as a former soldier was the one who got discharged before he even finished boot camp. Funny stuff.

Quote from: Crüesader;917154Wearing something like that in Texas with as many veterans as there are around here, you mind end up in a dumpster.  Or several.

Was that a simple observation on the nature of certain Texans, a hyperbolic joke about the nature of certain Texans, an indirect threat suggesting it would be not good to express certain ideas around certain Texans in Cruesaders neck of the woods (or plains)?  I have no idea, but let's not have another go of the whole "arguing about what was said or didn't" for another 15 pages. Just start quoting actual text and deal with what anyone can see was actually posted.

I mean, unless you can get your E-6 in basic training... I was medically discharged.

More or less 'we have loons here that take that a bit too seriously'.

But you know some of these people- Oh, wait.  I can write a Diagnosis... for our friend here...

Quote from: Crüesader;917369Bren, I think I know what you and Kyle's little game is.
You manifestly have no clue what my game is.

And I have no clue what Kyle's game is, though I'm thinking that I really have to watch the Big Lebowski.

QuoteWhen topics in a thread hit you close to home, you come in and start throwing insults around to attempt to derail them.
The topic of the thread was not murdering and dismembering people. You introduced that one all on your own. I pointed out that sort of behavior was inconsistent with either a land of the free or the actions of the brave and you went batshit crazy squealing about commies and SJWs. Which is laughable, but apparently to you an SJW is anyone who doesn't salute when you drop your turd in the punchbowl.

QuoteOne idiot thinks that talking about my former job and things I collect is being an 'internet tough guy'.
No limpdick there's nothing wrong with talking about jobs or your little collections. You can talk about either to your heart's content. Feel free to natter on about how many, what kind, and how big your guns are…or talk about your collections of GI Joe and My Little Pony figures for all I care. If what you say is relevant to gaming people are likely to appreciate it. If it’s irrelevant, most of us will probably just roll our eyes and ignore you.

The thing I object to is your pathetic weird penchant for “exaggeration” which always involves tough talking about how either current or former military or your fellow Texans are going to frighten, hurt, maim, or murder someone who makes you squeal by doing something so totally heinous as to display a tasteless and tacky t-shirt where you might see it.

QuoteIf this is what passes for logic around here, it's no wonder the hipsters own our hobby.
Hipsters probably own your ass cupcake, but they don’t own my hobby. Despite what they or you may say to the contrary.

Yes, it is.  It's a tired, old, sad game.

Actually, no- you took a reference about the area I live near and had an emotional meltdown.  To me- well, it's just like you.  Whiny, trying to derail everything when someone steps on its little pet cause.  Like I said, swine squeal when you hit them.  And here you squeal, trying to derail the topic because something hit close to home.

Actually- you've deluded yourself 2 ways:  You don't speak for 'most of us'.  You speak for yourself.  And the other delusion is that you seem to think that what you appreciate matters to me.  Look, dude you have your thing and I'm sorry you're triggered.  But you should get that looked at by a professional.  Or stop being a little bitch.

Whatever keeps vermin like you out of the area, you're welcome to believe.  But oh, someone mentioned violence and you're upset!  Oh no!  Go get your three feet of steel, ahorse or afoot.

Quote from: Bren;917396Hipsters probably own your ass cupcake, but they don’t own my hobby. Despite what they or you may say to the contrary.

I'm not the one that's scrambling to find games that they haven't contaminated.  I'm not the one desperately scribbling poor knock-offs of forgotten games down to pretend that my community is still 'strong'.  Face it- they took it from you and drove you to the recesses of the internet.  If there were better creatures than you in the hobby, they'd still be whining about butts in video games.

If your hobby wasn't owned, wrecked, and ruined- you'd have better things to worry about me.

Bren, I know people like you.  At some point, years ago- you thought about taking your own life.  I want you to know... you came to the wrong conclusion.

It's the most "out there" of all the Coen movies by far, yet Bridges somehow plays it straight compared to some of the more zany examples like Barton Fink or Hail Caesar.  It's a Coen Brothers movie, but at the same time it's own thing.  Not their best or their worst, but certainly different.
