This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

OSR games that don't use the OGL

Reading the spiffing Ambition & Avarice RPG - I was struck by the fact that even though it is a D&D variation it is all author copyright rather than OGL.

Maybe it's because I'm thick but it seems a bit odd to promote by stating:
QuoteThis game is a part of a movement within the roleplaying
game community called the Old School Renaissance or OSR.
[/I] - as the ability to build on and riff off clones in creating new variants that one could possibly self-publish is part of the fun and the on-going development of the OSR. I understand that people can nick and re-skin rules all they want but it did surprise me because I'm so used to seeing the license used.

Are there any other non-OGL games that call themselves part of the OSR ?

Spears of the Dawn doesn't (presumably Stars without Number, either).

I have to say they should include the OGL just for self-protection. In any case, that game sounds like D&D, but with new classes. If they change the wording around, and maybe rename a few things, they are safe.
