This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

JimBob, that was simply brilliant.

Well...Mr. Siembeda certainly seems to be taking the "ransom model" of publication to whole new levels, isn't he?  I wonder why he doesn't come clean and offer stock or bonds like a regular entrepreneur would.

Nah, it was more like the Crisis of Treachery!

I already said it elsewhere, but at this point, I worry that all of the money has gone to:
At best, creditors, because they've been secretly losing money for a while before they were ripped off.
or
At worst trying to hold the company together while they try to get that movie/tshirt/dart boart/beer stein/golf ball/novelty condom deal together instead of getting a new printing of RIFTS Ulitmate out.

The former is sad but understandable, the latter is just fucking insane.

It's not the first time he's called them that. See his page on how You Can Help.

Sounds like a movie, eh?

I'm really sick of this. I'm a Rifts fan, and I buy all the shit that comes out (even Rifters) for it. I even dig Robotech and have thunk twice abought buying mechanoid trilogy although it`s total junk (but has kewl robots in it...)

Gimme Product!
Don`t want no stinkin' Heroe of the Shmegaverse shit, I want my guns, my monkeys, my cyberwheelchair and my bill coffin sourcebooks!

I even ran around an fucking indie-con pimping Rifts, that`s how much I love it. And what do I get in response?
"Crisis of Treachery" for two years in a row.
Fuck it, gimme books!
Raise the price!
But gimme books!
(and pre painted rifts miniatures...)

Mr. Analytical

That thread's actually a little bit sad.

On the one hand there's the talk of finding new ways to exploit IPs and recruiting new customers (because there' s a huge untapped market out there full of people who love games that haven't been revised or updated since the mid-80's).

But on the other they're practically begging people to send more money in order to keep them in business long enough to get to Xmas or the end of some never-ending 4 month cycle.

Yep.  Collecting money and recruiting more members to collect money from.  Only two real goals.

Notice that the Crisis of Treachery (I do believe it's italicized whenever it appears) is presented almost exactly like an upcoming product?  Seriously, you could put a ® next to it and it wouldn't seem out of place at all.

Wow! That's a good point. The ransom model at best is begging, and at its worst it's begging so someone can overpay for a single piece of 20-year old artwork.

Questions:

1) The fans begged for the Big Kev to pandhandle?

Yes, they did. In fact Kevin refused to take donations in the begining. Eventually one of the fans setup a paypal account and started taking the dontations. So Palladium gave in an asked that fan to stop taking dontations and setup their own paypal account.

Now why is it everyone gets all over PB about this and not Green Ronin who did the exact same thing. In fact Green Ronins problems were self inflicted by having all their eggs in one basket. The fact is that there was a lot of theft @ Palldium and someone was found guilty for it.

While I didn't buy a print, I did choose to buy more of their books to support them. If you are not a Palladium fan, I truely don't understand why you care.

Here, here! I often wonder about the double standard. I can only think it is because Chris is more diplomatic than Kevin.
