This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Palladium renames itself...

Here's the thing that pisses me off about the Palladium plea. When Palladium made the announcement, Alliance was the first distributor to say, "This is terrible. We need to save Palladium because they are so important to the gaming industry and have such a long and distinguished history. Any retailer who orders Palladium products from now until [insert date here] will receive an extra 5% off on those products." In short order, all of the major distributors were offering the same discount for Palladium products.

Where the fuck was Alliance and the other distributors when Osseum walked away with an estimated near $300,000 - $400,000 that was owed to publishers? Did they once say, "This is terrible. Retailers should help out these publishers affected by buying their products. To give them an incentive we are going to give retailers a X% savings on products purchased from publishers who were devastated by Osseum's cowardice and theft."? Not a peep was heard. Nothing. Nada.

So much for the love of the industry, eh? But as I said earlier, it was mostly d20 companies affected by the Osseum shutdown and we all know they're a dime a dozen and have no possible usefulness to the long term health of the gaming industry. :rolleyes:

For this reason alone, I am more than willing to give money to any company who has managed to survive the Osseum theft and continues to produce products (with Green Ronin, Paradigm and Bastion being among the top). These guys did it without having to go the Palladium route of "save my company or else". They used other methods to stay afloat, such as working with their staff to take voluntary pay cuts, running huge sales on existing inventory in their online stores, getting freelancers to agree to work without immediate payment, and so forth. They did it by digging in and biting the bullet, all the while without any outside support from the industry itself. They deserve the money. I just can't say the same about Palladium, especially given the recent announcements asking for more money.

I like Rifts, it's good for a fun time.

However, I still remember the "cease & desist" orders for websites that Palladium pulled, along with TSR.

I also had a bad freelancer experience.

BUT, following my personal rules;

I got nothin' to say.
I am becoming more and more hollow, and am not sure how much of the man I was remains.
