Hello, I have started a blog to try to compile all of the good, free underdark resources I can find online in one place. Partly to see what is available and partly so that no-one ever has to buy a splatbook again if they don't want to.
The blog is here

If anyone knows of any resources that might be appropriate, please do let me know.
I was under the impression that the Underdark was the IP of WotC.
Is the portmanteau word really a trademark? Wizards isn't as scrupulous about the indicia as TSR was.
This is a map:

I believe it is but I don't really care, I'm not intending to make any money off it.
Or just say "caves".
Anyway, this is useful and James is good people, so if you got something I suggest you ante up.

I love your "dwarfs begot gnolls" idea!

It's a misconception that you have to make money off of something for it to be a violation.
A great thread - I will be following this with intetest. There's nothing to stop OSR developers from developing their own Underdark settings, dungeons and monsters. It's a great area I'd love to see work on.
Maldin's Greyhawk Underdark maps are quite nice: http://melkot.com/locations/underdark/underdark-region.html

Dude, most of the RPG nets are just people posting free shit for IP they don't own.
I mean, does anyone really want a return to 90's TSR?

Truly badass D&D Settings? Hell yeah!
Everything else from TSR in the 90s? Not so much.

I was referring more to their internet policy.
For a more contemporary reference, I guess I could point to Palladium's instead.

I wasn't saying not to do it, just that it's a misconception.

Fair enough.
Surprised nobody mentioned the Mapping the Depths project from Dragonsfoot.

In the D1,2,3 modules the underdark has a letter size map with only a corridor of areas detailed. There are a bunch of other areas marked on the map. The Mapping the depths projects was a community efforts to detail the entire map.

I actually already have those http://osr-underdark.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/maps.html
