This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: droogYeah, I'm sure that's what they said. Maybe they were just too appalled at themseves to admit what lies in their souls. I can relate.
As I'm not psychic, I don't know what lies in their souls. I just asked them what the thought of the game, and they told me. Asking people what they think is generally considered a reasonable guide to knowing them; at least a better guide than claiming psychic powers.

Quote from: droogI suppose another possibility is that you somehow forced them to act like cunts.
Well, the same people have happily played with me since, with no similar complaints, so that seems unlikely.

Well, it's a bit of a mystery how a game that allows you absolute moral authority and power to go with it can somehow make people play characters who are cunts. I'm quite perplexed.

Just came across some very good words of Robin Laws, in an essay about reviewing rpgs.

Quote from: Robin LawsTo return to the `game mechanics as cameras and lighting equipment' analogy, studying a game book to evaluate the RPG experience as art is rather like using a technical manual of cinematography to write about Rashomon instead of actually watching Rashomon itself. Rules mechanics are the virtual equipment for the story creation process, but are not the process itself.
He goes on to say it'd be better to read setting books, or even better, adventures. I'd say it'd be better to watch a group in play.

I guess this is one reason we trust "playtest" reviews more than regular reviews. People matter.

Jimbo, that analogy is incredibly wonky. First of all, reading that book is a valid way of reviewing that book.  But you are more suggesting that in order to properly evaluate Rashomon you actually have to have participated in making it, rather than merely watching it.

Just sayin'. I actually avoid playtest reviews because I often get the impression that the reviewer is reviewing his group more than the book itself.

But that's me.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.
