This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Only fascists have intelligence as part of their game design.

Quote from: CRKrueger;1100691Politics is about how to deal, prioritize and tackle the problems we face as a society.  Intelligent, committed adults can agree to disagree on this.

Yep. And despite all the fire and fury around culture wars, most people IRL are mainly concerned with mundane things like education, healthy care, and the economy. Even when it comes to contentious social issues, only extremists have radical and inflexiable views. The great majority of people are moderate on most issues. And more importantly, as you note, are capable of getting along socially even with people who they disagree with.

Quote from: CRKrueger;1100691Increasingly, political tribal party affiliation is about what problems we completely ignore and which ones we brand as the Ultimate Evil.  Politics as Fundamentalist Religion allows for no debate, for you are of the Body or you are a Heretic.

Only a small fraction of people have turned politics into fundamentalist moral warfare. Again, the real issue is why the rest of us go along with it. Why Paizo customers go along with Paizo zealously preaching an ideology that only a fraction of them subscribe to.

Yep.  With the collapse of metaphysical narratives we, as a culture, have replaced them with political narratives.

"'We', Kemosabe?" :D

(Yes, I know you were speaking of the overall culture, but some of us still hold on to the traditional model. :) )

Because more and more we see people reading these insane proclamations and believing them.

Really? I see the same circles of fools putting these things out, but I have never seen anyone actually sucked into truly believing them.

Give it time.  The idiotic writings of this nature from a decade ago include some of the "ideas" taken as holy writ now by the extreme left.  Articles like this aren't meant to persuade.  They are meant to move the window.

Some people believe them, because this is the Internet -- so it's easy to focus in on any small minority of views, from white supremacists to hard-core communists.

Yeah, I think that is true.

Some of them sound okay, but limited

"It allow the players to take on the roles of factions of wizards, vying for control of the world, in heated competition with one another."

Some are clearly self-indulgent therapy sessions disguised as "games":

"No One Lives Here Anymore is a single player, Outcomes Engine game about boxing up the things in your house after your last parent dies."

And some are just... well...

"Over the course of an evening at a party thrown for the trans members of the local queer community, everyone will have a chance to tear up their birth certificates and repeal the gender they had been assigned and embrace their actual gender."

I have to wonder about the replay value on that one. No, I really don't.
