This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Why don't you just link to Kellri's site? Doesn't Yahoo groups have a place for links?
Partly because I would like to start getting a library of files together, rather than send people all over the web to find things; also, if there is a problem with bandwidth on their side or something, I would like to be able to have the files available.

I can link to his site also, if he would like, or he can join the group and add the link, if he wants to advertise it a bit.

I could also stop talking about him in the third person, as he is active on this thread and all.  :)

Oh, I love me some tables.  I will probably sketch a few out in the coming weeks and see what I can come up with.  Maybe some variant treasure tables and an update to the random harlot table.

A while ago I wanted to make a for-sale version of Tables for Fables (see my signature for the link) - maybe with stats for a specific system. But I didn't get enough interest to convince me to go ahead with it. The moral of the story - don't ask me what old-school products should be made.

Maybe a random dungeon generator for 4th edition? A lot of people come to my site looking for that.

I was looking at those earlier today. Would you mind if I put them up on my file hosting site and announce them to the Yahoo group?

No objections really. I do fairly regular updates/proofs of my stuff, so make sure you clearly note my file server & blog address so folks can get the new stuff. Currently, I have 11 netbooks for various old school games. I'm in Vietnam - yahoo groups + geocities are both blocked by the gov't firewall. I can only access these sites through a proxy, which often doesn't work at all. (Otherwise I'd be all over the Gamma World group).

The Old School Reading List is undergoing a big revision and should be finished in a week or so (full synopsis, links, and author bios for every book on the inspirational reading list in the DMG and Moldvay Basic).

You might want to check out the upcoming OSRIC v2 for the cool revised DMG Urban Encounters. Here's a sneak peak at my own Red-Light Professions table:

Red-light Professions
d%   Profession
01-02   Cheap harlot
03-10   Slovenly whore
11-18   Brazen streetwalker
19-20   Typical tart
21-22   Saucy wench
23-25   Expensive callgirl
26-27   Haughty mistress
28-29   Sly panderer
30-38   Rich pimp
39-45   Wanton lady-of-the-night
46-48   Wealthy gigolo
49-63   Sleazy tout
64-65   Shifty procurer
66-73   Seductive dancer
74-80   Finely-attired concubine
81-82   Penniless hag
83-90   Amoral street hustler
91-95   Foppish bawd
96-97   Elegant doxy
98-00   Sleepy-eyed trollop
Kellri's Joint
Old School netbooks + more

You can also come up with something that is not only original and creative and artistic, but also maybe even decent, or moral if I can use words like that, or something that's like basically good -Lester Bangs

Thanks for the go ahead, I will put those up there in the OSRIC section, and if I don't have the link up for your blog yet, I will certainly put it up there.

I have heard about the various firewalls overseas like that.  I can shoot you a link to the file sharing site I decided to use instead of Yahoo:

http://www.mediafire.com/CitadelChaos

You may be able to get to that easier, let me know if it works.

I was perusing that as well, I think I will set that up as a link instead of a direct download, as I would imagine that will get updated pretty frequently.

I like sandbox type accessories and settings. I hate settings with Meta-Plots, Feel free to give me tables, maps, NPCs, and as much or little detail as you want just DON'T TIE DOWN THE GM TO METAPLOT CRAP.

Yeah, even (n)WoD fans tend to decry the meta-plot, and the game is practically designed to have a meta-plot.  :)

I would certainly throw in some campaign notes, though, to help get things rolling.  A sidebar or shaded box marked "Optional" or "Plot tips" or something.  "King Frank has spies in the court of Duke Pissant, because he suspects the duke of treachery.  However, the Duke is one of his most loyal vassals; rumours of his plots against the king are engineered by Baron Traytor von Backstab."

I would probably even go so far as to not include towns of less than 3,000 people or so, to give a pretty big area for villages, thorps, farming communites and whatnot for the DM to place as needed.  The same goes for NPCs of lower peerage than Marquis or Marquess, and I would likely only have a few Earls just as examples.

I know what map I want to use, I guess it is time for me to start writing things up.  :)

Can't stand settings. Every fantasy game I've played since 1990 has used my own setting. You say "setting" and I don't even look at it. I actually find it kind of sad that gamers use other people's settings, but that's just because setting creation and refinement is the entire reason I like running games at all....

That seems rather harsh.  In the past I've preferred to use my own setting as well, but I can be inspired by cool ideas included in another person's setting.  (E.g., I've never run a campaign using the Wilderlands, but it's definitely influenced and inspired my own campaigns, for the better.)  I'm not so proud as to assume that I have nothing to gain from others' creative efforts!

You've pretty much summed up my own feelings on the topic.
