One Horse Town

As the title would have been about 3 lines long i shortened the saying - "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue."

I'm talking treasured RPG books. You favourite 'old' product, your favourite 'new' product, your favourite 'borrowed' product (i bet we all have something tucked away that we borrowed and it never found its way back to its owner, for whatever reason) and something 'blue' (the colour!!)

Old - Not so old, but i figure 1985 in older than newer. My Dragon Warriors paperbacks.

New - Again, a few years ago (2005?). The GOO Game of Thrones book. Bloody meaty, bloody beautiful.

Borrowed - Alchemy Companion (Rolemaster). This book has formed the basis of 2 articles i've written for WFRP, so it's been invaluable to me. I also love it. This is my mates who has moved away.

Blue - Talislanta 4th obviously! I just wanna play...

The Yann Waters

Old -- This would have to be MERP from '86, without which I might have given up on tabletop gaming altogether soon after that very first brush with D&D.

New -- Changeling: The Lost, the only nWoD book that I've actually gone to the trouble of purchasing, and much less scatter-brained than its earlier namesake (although I was fond of that too).

Borrowed -- Er... None. I've ended up losing a few supplements over the years in this way, though.

Blue -- Well, I suppose that the cover of Praedor includes more blue than that of The Sailor Moon Role-Playing Game and Resource Book, and I definitely run it more often...

Zachary The First

Old:  The Traveller Book?  Keep on the Borderlands?  It'd be a tough call there.

New:  Also my copy of the Traveller Book.  I got it in a trade--its a nice complement to my reprints series.  Aside from that, there's Pathfinder Beta, which is really neat.  There's also a lot of new pdf stuff I'm going over.

Borrowed: I borrowed my buddy's 3e Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, because I couldn't find mine (have now).  We keep forgetting to make the exchange.

Blue: The Risus Companion?  Sort of a jean-blue?

Old: B/X D&D sets (3 of them)
New: Savage Worlds
Borrowed: Nothing...I always seem to be the one to lend and never get the item back
Blue: Dungeon Module D1-2, Descent Into the Depths of the Earth; my favorite module of all time!
For fuck\'s sake, these are games, people.

And no one gives a fuck about your ignore list.

Kellri

Old: my little brown booklet 1e Boot Hill, signed (bizarrely) by Gygax at my first GenCon

New: my dice. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to get good dice in Asia.

Borrowed: back home in storage, my first copy of Fiend Folio, shamelessly stolen from the public library long ago

Blue: who's bluer than Cthulhu (5th edition)
Kellri\'s Joint
Old School netbooks + more

You can also come up with something that is not only original and creative and artistic, but also maybe even decent, or moral if I can use words like that, or something that\'s like basically good -Lester Bangs

From 5.5 onwards, anyway. I have 5.0, and it's basically brown.

Kellri

Yes, indeed, 5.5...I ought to look at it more often. (Just can't imagine playing much CoC with the Korean kids I game with, though).

Old- 2e Gamma World.  This was my first RPG experience, and holds a special nostalgia spot for me.

New- Cortex System Role Playing Game.  I liked Elmore's Sovereign Stone RPG for several reasons, one among them being the interesting concept of using different sized dice for attributes.  It's nice to see that it has evolved into a big system for some big licensed RPGs.

Borrowed- I hate to admit it, but I am guilty of this in only once instance.  I met this guy who was into Champions and he let me borrow a copy, but it never panned out between us and his group.  I failed to return the book, and contact was lost.

Blue- I just bought ($8 total!) a used copy of 1e Blue Planet off a guy on rpg.net.  I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival in the mail.

Old: Monsters! Monsters!, Flying Buffalo's 1976 Tunnels & Trolls-from-the-monsters-perspective game.  I'm eh on it, but it's a nice little curio.

New: Final Flight, Pagan's latest CoC release.  I'm honestly quite disappointed in it, and don't think it was worth the $10 cover price.

Borrowed: There's actually nothing borrowed in my collection.  It's technically also partially my SO's collection though, so hrm... What is hers?  The d20 Modern Dark*Matter campaign setting is technically hers, I believe.

Blue: Dungeons & Dragons Set 2: Expert Rules.  Doesn't get much bluer than that.

Old:  Have to go with Kult.  It was the first game I purchased that deviated from typical RPG material back in the day and even though I have a love hate relationship with the mechanics I always want it to do well

New: Dark Heresy, edging out Warhammer Fantasy only because it's newer.

Borrowed: I don't actually have anything borrowed however I did lend my 1st copy of 3rd edition Blood Bowl to an ex-friend and only got about 25% of it back.

Blue:  World of Darkness core rules.  For just doing mundane play in the modern world this book alone holds up very well.  I also like it even more when you play Changeling with it...
AccidentalSurvivors.com : The blood will put out the fire.

Idinsinuation

Old: Bughunters - My first game.
New:  Dark Heresy
Borrowed: My 2nd copy of the AFMBE rulebook.  Now pretty much a gift but it's so nice to have.
Blue:  Call of Cthulhu
"A thousand fathers killed, a thousand virgin daughters spread, with swords still wet, with swords still wet, with the blood of their dead." - Protest the Hero

droog

Old: Probably the old RQ2 book.

New: Spione.

Borrowed: I've got a printed PDF of Burning Sands (for BW) that somebody lent me. Can't find it right now.

Blue: I guess I'll go with King of Sartar.

Old: CoC 1e

Borrowed: er... CoC 1e (I found it in a twelve year old stratum o a bookstore I used to work at, and "liberated" it.
Blue: D&D 4E phb, which, ironically enough is out on loan.

Most Treasured Old RPG: My original tattered Basic D&D book which found it's way back to me after many years.

Favorite New RPG: D&D4

Borrowed: Teenagers From Outer Space.  My copy was borrowed from a friend.  Then we had a falling out.  He never asked for it back and I never returned it.

Blue: Is Robotech II: The Sentinels blue enough?

blit

Old: Ars Magica Revised Edition.
New: Just picked up Chaosium's BRP book.
Borrowed: Nothing.
Blue: Paranoia Flashbacks looks fairly blueish.
