This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Actually,  I just got an email  that OD&D is now available in PDF! I guess you can find it on Drivethru yourselves, since I'm on my phone.

It's also on http://www.dmsguild.com/

True, but I prefer having my PDFs in as few places as possible,  personally.

DM's Guild is part of OBS. But it there and it appears on your OBS library on RPGNow or DriveThru.

I wish they would re-release all those other OOP TSR and Paizo-licensed IPs they used to sell in PDF. If nothing else they could license those out to people who actually care. For Faerie Queen and Country, Bughunters, Kromosome, Magitech, Tabloid!, Galactos Barrier, Star*Drive, Dark•Matter, Star Frontiers, Shadow Hunters, Urban Arcana, Agents of Psi, Pulp Heroes, Genetech, Worlds of Wonder, etc. They are just sitting on these IPs going to waste.

Quote from: Warthur;875585My understanding is that Knights of the Dinner Table is the main sticking point.

I guess if nothing can be resolved they could just do the "best of" route and just put out compilations of the material they are sure they have the rights to.

KotDT is the one they actually had to settle over, but James Lowder was making a lot of noise on Usenet over authors' rights and contracts back when the project was announced. Not only that, there's Marvel and Star Wars stuff in several issues, and Disney owns those properties now and "has no sense of humor" about things like that. (Quote from Timothy Zahn, who apparently got into a bit of hot water over sticking a Star Tours reference into one of his Star Wars novels.)

"Best of" collections would be nice, though, both general and setting-focused.

DWD Studios has an agreement with WotC to put out the complete catalog of Star Frontiers digitally remastered (updated art and formatting) as long as no profit is gained for their endeavor.  You can download all of the pdfs for free and get hard copies from Lulu.  Not sure why you couldn't do this with some of the other titles.

So anyone picked up the new pdf yet? Is it worth getting over the other versions floating around the web?

AsenRG

I picked it up, but as I'm not familiar with those other versions, I can't really comment:).

Yes it is in terms of formatting.

RunningLaser

Purchased and printed out.  Now to take some time tonight and put the pages in page protectors on then on into a 3 ring binder.

I decided to buy the Iron Falcon od&d clone instead.  Same rules but already printed in one book, plus the Greyhawk options, plus I don't have to run it thru an interpreter before I actually can use it to play a game.  Oh, and it's cheaper.

I'm kinda grumpy with the PDF for Men and Magic. It seems that it is missing a blank page on the inside front cover. That means page 1 is numbered ii and the numbering then goes from 1-34 with the back cover being labelled 3, 4.

I like to print books like these as booklets and it normally wouldn't be a big deal, I'd just print i, ii, iii, iv on card stock and 1-34 on regular paper and staple them all together. If they'd labelled the pages correctly I could just print i, iii, iii, iv and be done with it, but since they didn't use roman numerals for the last two pages, I haven't figured out how to print it. And yes, I know I could just print i in booklet and automatically get the cardstock right, but still, such a simple error and they have it protected so you cannot change the numbering of the pages. Sloppy.

As for the books themselves, Awesome. But compared to the versions I have, maybe not worth it. There are so many clones that in my opinion work better; I'd rather PLAY them than this. I bought these pdfs to support WOTC in releasing them. As for a comparison with pdfs I have from 2008 (at least that's the date I added them to my external harddrive and the order number is in the low 1 millions), they don't seem to be any different aside from formatting. I think the reference sheets are the same (shitty scans) but my original pdfs also came with a box scan as well.

Necrozius

Got them and decided to print them out and read them for the first time as a history lesson.

Wow, the game has improved over the years, at least in terms of usability. Yikes some of those tables were awkward.

There is a charm in it, for sure.

i am so very pleased that this has happened.

it means a historical document is available for all.

everyone can read the source for our hobby and make up their own minds as to it's playability and have fun with it.... or not.
