This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Tell us - oh great RPG Enthusiasts - HOW are you getting together and playing your beautiful games? What are you playing or running? Regale us your tales of fun and joy!!

The usual still. Playing a combo of Mongoose Traveller 2e and Traveller5 online using either StreamYard or Meeting. Looking at doing Murder on Arcturus Station next. The new one that just came out.

Honestly, I haven't gotten to play much at all the past couple years. I'd been doing all of my gaming online, and suddenly our internet connection went wonky for well over half a year. Sudden, unpredictable disconnects. It seemed to coincide with Hargray buying out Comcast in this area. My connection is back now, but in the meantime my work schedule got unpredictable, but I'm about to change jobs so hopefully I'll have a schedule with certain times blocked off for gaming. Then I'll get to looking/recruiting again.

I did get to play in a one-shot at Dragon Con in 2019. And around that time I'd run Apocalypse World 2e and played in part of a session of Stars Without Number. I'd like to try Stars Without Number sometime in a game with fewer than 8 PCs. It definitely reinforced the fact that games with that many players are not my cuppa.  ;D

Once a week in hybrid (3 players live and 3 players remote).  D&D 5e, half time as DM and half time as player.  Been playing with this group since the 80s, so the technology changes, but the gaming remains the same!

Playing in 1930's New England COC on Skype 3/month.  Always good with my group.

Running B/X D&D for wife and our 8 and 10 year old boys 2/week in person.  They are so enthusiastic.

Just finished running my first cinematic Free League Alien (Chariots of the Gods) on Skype.  It was awesome.

Taking a break from running my two year Traveller game (in COC instead).

All games moved to Roll20 since March of 2020. It would have been an ace year for gaming except that I had to teach evenings virtually from Sept-December. Four months of not gaming after some of the most prolific gaming I've done since high school.

I joined a Savage Worlds game for the spring and summer last year. It was a blast playing in the Slipstream world.

I also joined a D&D5e game for a time, every other week. Good fun.

I ran some Cepheus Light one-offs last year too.

Now, I'm still running my alternating weekly games of Stars Without Number Revised.

roll20 playing D&D 5e.  I personally have a pro subscription and I also subscribe to syrinscape for sounds.  We had been playing on Table Top Simulator for a bit but it was too much work as DM compared to roll20.

We've been doing playtests upon playtests, in person with pizza, dice and immune systems.

Currently playing: Cyberpunk RED.  Controversial game, I know but I love it.  I am a huge fan of R Talsorian and have been for a long time.

Next game I'm working on will either be Machinations of the Space Princess or a Castles and Crusades campaign set in Old-School Greyhawk.

I'm using Roll20, I have an interest in leaning Maptool and Foundry VTT but they come with their own set of issues.  Roll20 remains the most accessible.  All you need is a Java compatible browser and an internet connection. A lot of my players are using low-powered laptops so not needing to troubleshoot software to get a game running is always nice.

Oh, nice! Can I convince you to do a thread on your opinions of the system and how it worked with your group, etc?

About once a month, as the various group members have time, we meet in person and I run Unisystem Armaggedon for a bunch of damned souls, a hippy goddess of getting drunk on the beach (or something) and a confused Atlantean Immortal who loves to brew homemade explosives in the back of a moving vehicle.

So far all they've done is annoy the local leaders of the Alliance and generally get run out of town (see also: Homemade explosives brewed in moving vehicles...), but as of the last session they are finally starting to get into the meat of the setting, while half the group (damned sinners) had a tete a tete  with the archangel Gabriel, where he threatened to go biblical on Philidelphia if they didn't purge the city of Church of Revalations Apostles, the other half managed to cut down a Sheol (Undead) agent of said CoR.

An not one explosion.

And... I'll probably forget half of what I had planned by the time we get together again.  Adulting is hard, yo.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

I'm running The Dark Eye for 3 players on Tuesday nights.  Three of us are sitting around a table together, the 4th Skype's in since he lives in Florida and we're in Ohio.  We play for about 4 hours.

On Saturdays I run a Big Eye, Small Mouth 4th Ed game for 4 players.  We're all around a table together at one of our homes.  The game starts around 1pm and goes until 11 or so.  We usually break an hour for dinner around 6.  About once every couple months we'll take a weekend off and we may play a couple board games or go to the gun range and then out to dinner.

Most of us have been gaming together for 20+ years and range from 37 to 45 years old.  No one has any real interest in trying VTT play.  For us the getting together and the social aspect is as much of the experience as the game.

Been playing Mongoose Traveller on foundry VTT. The ruleset isn't complete and the guy doing most of the work is dealing with burnout so that's a little annoying, but I'm getting what I paid for.

I will say, having explored the many options, I generally find Discord the best option for online play.

It includes built-in voice and video chat (this works well with a web cam pointed at a map if doing combat on a grid), screen sharing and dice bots that can handle systems as complex as the Old World of Darkness with its 1s subtracting and specializations adding additional rolls on a 10s.

Use the chat portion to drop down important world info and images (we also upload our PC sheets so the GM can reference as needed), voice chat for live sessions and private chat to pass hidden notes as needed.

It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of a supported system running a pre-gen Mod on Roll20, but it also had a very low learning curve to be able to set up and play.

We tried moving my Star Trek Adventures campaign to Discord/Roll 20, but I'm just not up with all the bells and whistles.  Even when someone took over as GM, I found the experience lacking.  So ultimately I ended up dropping out of my own campaign (after handing it off to one of the players to run).

These days, sadly, the only roleplaying I get is on RPOL.net, a play-by-post forum.  It's fun, but of course the nature of play-by-post means it's slow, and lacking in many of the fun interactions of playing at a table with live people.

There, I'm currently running Star Trek Adventures (a different campaign than my old tabletop one, set during the "Wrath of Khan" era), and Mutant Future (using elements of 1e Gamma World).

I'm also playing in a 1st edition AD&D game, a B/X D&D game, an ALIENS game, and a Call of Cthulu 7e game.  If that seems like a lot... they all move very slowly.
PEACE!

I run a Comic & Game store and my group meets there after hours once a week in person. We are playing through Descent Into Avernus and we just hit 5th level (I'm a Wild Magic Sorcerer).

I also run an online game on Thursdays with friends who live elsewhere but it gets cancelled quite a bit. I don't dislike playing online, but I'd much rather play in person.
I've run 5E and a homebrew spin on Basic Role Playing with that group.
