This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What part of that would be a surprise to you? That gamers fucking love the Rules Cyclopedia, which gets constantly held up as the best single-book D&D compilation ever? Or that they also love the Temple of Elemental Evil, one of the most classic adventures of all time?

RPGPundit

I don't think Temple is very good and didn't know many people thought otherwise.

Homlet is, of course, awesome but the Temple?

Meh.
Disclaimer: I attach no moral weight to the way you choose to pretend to be an elf.

Currently running: The Great Pendragon Campaign & DC Adventures - Timberline
Currently Playing: AD&D

RPGPundit

Quote from: Reckall;622842I hope they will include the errata. They are copious, IIRC.

They haven't done this in any reprint thus far, what would lead you to think they'd do so now?

Meh.

See I always liked the Temple better than Hommlet.

IIRC, the 3.5 reprints came with the errata.
For every idiot who denounces Ayn Rand as "intellectualism" there is an excellent DM who creates a "Bioshock" adventure.

Quote from: Reckall;622882IIRC, the 3.5 reprints came with the errata.

I guess the thing with 1E was that Gary wasn't exactly around to consult when the reprints were happening, so they couldn't go back to him and say "Hey, is this really a mistake or was there an intention behind this?" Under such circumstances I can see why people would be reluctant to tamper with his text, especially in a product which was ostensibly released as a tribute to him.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

Is there any generally received errata for 1e around?

Meh.

I agree with Piestrio here.  Yeah, you could do some interesting stuff with the various factions, but once the PCs were focused on the temple, it felt a lot more like "room to room and slay, repeat" than T1, which allowed for a lot more creative freedom.
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

RPGPundit

Huh. Didn't know that about the 3.5 reprints. My mistake!
