This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

New WFRP?

The Exploited.

I think that's what everyone is after with 4e. A setting that precedes the storm of chaos and a slightly more refined version of 2e.

But I spurn 3e back into the pit from whence it came. ;)

Quote from: RPGPundit;998724A good point was made on the thread; it would be really really hard that 3e, even if it's good, actually be a BETTER game than 2e.

But I guess I'm hoping 3e will be good not much for myself as for the legacy of the game and the people who might play it then.

I think you mean 4e, as the 3rd edition was the J Little, Fantasy Flight abomination that was perhaps the most foul overwrought box of RPG bullshit to ever hit my table.

But yeah, it's going to be tough for C7 to beat the 2nd edition.  The best reason for a 4th edition, in my mind, is that used OOP 1st and 2nd edition books (largely compatible) go for ridiculous sums on ebay or amazon with many books selling at $100+.  I would hope that C7's goal would be no more than to make a classic, fantastic game more accessible, and perhaps fill in a few gaps.

They can just change the logos and reprint those, like they did for the books on the Humble Bundle, you know;)?

Also, is this now the official thread for hating on proprietary dice? If so, let it be known to you that, although I don't find it mentioned on the site, the Legend of Five Rings 5th Edition by FFG is also using proprietary dice now, according to the free beta:D!

AFAIK the FFG dice for LotFR are similar in design to the One Ring dice by C7, normal dice with one or two faces changed to symbols rather than the SW style multiple symbols.

Sorry, but you know wrong, they look quite similar to me:). The L5R Free Beta lists the dice, and they're d6s and d12s, for attributes and skills respectively, with five kind of symbols, including the blank faces.

The symbols are, more or less, Success, Explosive success, Opportunity, Blank face, and Strife. Sometimes you have a success-and-strife, or success-and-opportunity, on the same face, and explosive success just means you reroll.
I actually like how the symbols can be mapped to Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Void, BTW:D!
And the game is still roll-and-keep, so sometimes you might have to choose between succeeding at cost, or failing;).

The explosive success is a little better than just a reroll.  If you keep a die with one, in addition to the success you can roll and keep an additional die of the same type.  Buy that should be it's own thread, this one is veering too much already.  Of course, I'm not helping...

Quote from: Manic Modron;998996So you are just going full Highlander II on the existing 3rd edition?  ;)

No, that was a typo on my part. But I wish we could forget 3e!

Yeah, I mean "in addition to the success":).

If you want to, feel free to open a new thread. So far, I like the new L5R, especially since they're also offering a diceroller with their specialty dice;)!

3rd edition WFRP was such a bad idea, should be called "the edition that shall not be named".

I like some of the tweaks of 2nd but to be honest 1st was pretty close to perfect with only a few tweaks needed.
