Quote from: BoxCrayonTales;1046289Studies suggest women are attracted to intelligence and handsomeness. They prefer intelligence over handsomeness, and prefer the most attractive of intelligent guys.

Would those be self-report studies? Because it sure seems like the thing women go for most IRL is self confidence.

Quote from: BoxCrayonTales;1046289Is that really the same thing? At least here in the USA it is okay for dudes to run topless in public, but not for women to do the same.

You do know that men don't have mammary gland breasts (unless you count those overly obese men's flabby chests as breasts)? That's uniquely female. There is no reason to act like they're not. And breasts, from an evolutionary sense indicate a female of reproductive age and I pretty sure that has something to do with it.

And we haven't even discussed the ass men or the legs men.

QuoteBreasts are seen as sexual objects in a way that male anatomy does not seem to have an equivalent to. Even something as innocent and biologically necessary as breastfeeding one's own child is seen as obscene by society at large. So for complicated socio-economic reasons, boob plate is sexist but bare-chested barbarians are not. I don't really know to explain it any better.

Ok, you can keep burying your head in the sand if you want, but women do in fact find certain male body parts sexually attractive.

QuoteReality is complicated. We should not dismiss accusations of ingrained prejudice out of hand. I have already offered my unconventional suggestions for improvement, like drawing everyone stark naked, drawing all women flat-chested, acknowledging that orc bandits are not representative of orcs as a whole any more than human bandits are representative of humans as a whole, implicitly writing all characters as bisexual, etc.

Probably not as complicated as you want to make it. But hey, don't let me prevent you from mounting that white stallion and riding off to white knight for all the oppressed folks you seem to see.

QuoteStudies suggest women are attracted to intelligence and handsomeness. They prefer intelligence over handsomeness, and prefer the most attractive of intelligent guys.

Short men all over the world will shout out in glee to learn that you have ordained women above petty physical attractiveness.

Quote from: Haffrung;1046288Hey now, those are just patriarchal, euro-centric norms foisted on women by the oppressive cis-normative judeo-Christian system. I'm sure you'll find all sorts of cultures where most women are attracted to short, skinny, hunchbacked, balding men with bad complexions.

As long as they're smart, according to some. ;)

Confidence, height and looks are all factors, but looks are third on the list, according to various studies done by dating sites.  OK Cupid did one and the Men rated 60% of the women as date material.  The Women on the other hand rate 80% of the men as not worthy of their time.  And those that were considered 'attractive' by ALL the women of all demographics had three things in common, they were tall, they had six digit salaries and were Caucasian.

How often is it a scrawny, super smart, nerd carrying off the damsel on those covers is it?

Ain't that the truth! Ask anyone outside around here and that's exactly what's on their mind, plus-perfect subjunctive imperative gendered or not. And Uber drivers, stop littering your pee bottles about! You make 1970s Lebanese-Americans-playing-Native-Americans cry solitary tears! :(

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

But intelligence (and humour) don't show up on the cover of books. Women aren't as motivated by visual stimuli as men are, but they aren't totally oblivious to it either. Which is why most romance novels have illustrations of men on the cover, and why the men in those pictures share some key physical traits (tall, broad shoulders, slim hips, strong jawlines, a healthy head of hair).

Good luck finding that study though because they've all been removed, perhaps because the data completely contradicts SJWs talking points, most likely because they were bought by Match.com.

I think that ship has sailed, and there's really not much to talk about regarding your video other than agreeing or disagreeing with it.

The opportunity for dndgate has also sailed judging by how quickly it was  taken over. It's  funny in a way, but also potentially concerning. Almost no one who was pro dndgate showed up. Is that because of who originated it? Because of gamergate's reputation? Because of what the apparent ur-tweet  was complaining  about? Or is it really that those who have not drunk the SJW koolaid are a small minority in the hobby?

I think #Gamergate got traction because of it was based on an injustice (corruption in gamer journalism) and especially from the grostesque sight of the media doubling down on their own corruption. It wasn't just about SJW virtue signalling per se. From what I can tell, Pundit's campaign so far has been based on reaction to the idea that non-gamers are part of the D&D Community. Which is mildly annoying, but not on the same level as journalistic corruption.

I think if Jeremy Crawford takes WoTC to full Marvel Comics level, where the core products are being seriously damaged, #DnDGate could take off. Certainly D&D 6th edition could be a massive clusterfuck of Social Justice. But not yet.

I don't agree with your analysis. Yes, it was subverted in the first couple of days from when the SJWs noticed it. However, by the third day, a number of anti-SJW posters took notice and started to counter-post. The long range effect of this is that all the virtue-signallers will eventually run out of steam while the anti-SJWs will have adopted #DnDGate into their lexicon.

It's just a matter of outlasting them.

It's pretty obvious that Crawford is just getting started. And note that he started by claiming that any gamer who supports the Trump administration or the Rule of Law is "Evil".

But I'm just getting started too.

To be honest, I haven't a clue what D&DGate is.
