This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I can think of specific characters from Deities and Demigods that are now considered inappropriate, such as the Norse and Greek gods, as small sects of wiccans worship them and take themselves seriously. Still I like using the gods from Deities and Demigods over the ones that were specifically made up for Dungeons & Dragons.

If a D&D 6E happens, I promise you it will be The Woke Edition.
I need you to roll a perception check.....

I like 3.5, I don't like buying new books to replace old books and 3.5 in the most versatile version in my opinion, and also the fact that I know the core rulebooks inside and outside, monsters, npcs, and pcs all have the same format. D&D really doesn't get dated, what was medeaval fantasy back then still is medeaval fantasy now, whereas science fiction gets dated quite rapidly. I don't know why D&D has so many versions. How about the Monopoly boardgame, there is only one version of that. I really want them writing new adventures instead of the Core Rule Books, I don't want to have to buy them over and over again! I don't want 21st century fads and trends in my D&D games.

It's a shame because that would probably split the fans into two camps, neither of which would buy it.  On one hand, you have the people that just aren't into the woke stuff.  On the other, the true woke believers who probably think whatever 6e would be is done better in some FATE or Dungeon World product.

Or simply see all the work as free for distribution and never buy it at all.  Liberals always think they're entitled to everyone else's work for free.

That is a corporation for you, D&D was better off under TSR than Hasbro, a large faceless corporation. The Corporates are well insulated from their customer base and play the political game instead!

I don't think Hasbro's the issue--I think it was the shift in corporate culture from a fairly middle-of-the-road midwestern operation like TSR to the Seattle-born and bred, self-consciously progressive Wizards of the Coast that caused the major change.

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

Are the majority of players a bunch of blacks that want to play orc and drow characters?

Not sure what that has to do with the point. But I would note that Paizo is sprung from ex-WotC folks in the same location, is not answerable to a corporate master, and is even more outspokenly left-wing.

So the real problem is that they're all from the Pacific northwest...
The more clichéd my group plays their characters, the better. I don't want Deep Drama™ and Real Acting™ in the precious few hours away from my family and job. I want cheap thrills, constant action, involved-but-not-super-complex plots, and cheesy but lovable characters.

There is nothing inherently left-wing about Dungeons & Dragons, the people who play the game don't lean in any particular direction, and they don't care about the politics of the game designers or writers, even more frustrating for the writers is D&D has no built in setting, and without that the game designers have no particular avenue to push their politics on to their customers, a lot of them like to make up their own game world's rather than play in the official ones. There are a lot of tools for making one's own game world's, and they can be as conservative or as liberal as the DM wants it to be.
