This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

EPISODE 4 of Inappropriate Characters is now out, and it's our longest one yet!  And we go totally off the reservation with our fantastic special guest star +Jobe Bittman !

In tonight's exciting episode we:
-Continue our fundraising efforts to convince +Venger Satanis's wife to let him stay up later.

-Talk about the connection between Lovecraft & Donald Trump

-Get derailed talking about James Gunn's firing and how should Cultural Libertarians feel about that?

-Find out about Jobe's new secret LotFP project for +James Raggi and why he wants to make his players kill children

-Learn the secrets of the Seattle Storygames scene from Jobe's inside investigations.

-Hear how Critical Role fans are now accusing Matt Mercer of being homophobic for killing an LGBT player character on his D&D-themed Youtube Show

-With a total of 10 kids between the four of us, bring up the subject of roleplaying with kids and what murderous little shits they are.

-Question #WoTC 's real commitment to LGBT diversity as Jobe reveals how they erased all his gay characters from the adventure he published for them!

-Discuss the She-Ra controversy and how He-Man is actually a badass Sword & Sorcery setting

-Hear Jobe tell us what's not fun about the #LotFP system, and his epic experience playing Cyborg Commando

-talk about the influence of Jobe's occultism on his game design (and mine on my games).

-discuss why the people who don't like us don't like us. And why they lie about us.

All this and more, in the best and funniest talk show of the #DnD Intellectual Dark Web!

I haven't watched the episode yet, but I wanted to say this first: I have long thought that He-Man would make a really cool RPG setting. I like the sword and sorcery flavor and also the use of technology. In many sci-fi settings, I feel like technology undermines the heroism of the game for me - individual skill and bravery along with the uniqueness of magic and artifacts are less important when some of the most powerful and/or useful things can be mass produced. He-Man had technology, but it fits into the fantasy feel of the world without causing the problems for me that technology often does.

I'm not sure what a game in that setting would be like, I'd want to do it with original characters with a few tweaks to canon.

The Exploited.

Another good episode!!

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who doesn't get all this Critical Roll nonsense... Just shows how 'the crowd' can be a fickle bitch when they don't get the reality show they expect. At the risk of repeating myself - Isn't death a huge part of an RPG?? I mean it'd be a bit fluffy if the characters were consistently 'invulnerable' or even felt like they were. That's one thing that put me off Tales From The Loop... The kids can't actually die.

I'm surprised Mercer got so much flak for an inbuilt game mechanic - Didn't he actually apologize to these people as well??! Rule No. 1 Never fucking apologize (unless you get your facts wrong).

Okay, at least we've also established that Pundit isn't horribly disfigured and actually has a beard. :D So lets hope the patreon goes up so we can actually see the man himself!!

Keep up the good work!

You're really not helping his rep as the dark high priest of the Cthulhu cult there.

That was gone the first time people saw his smiling face on YouTube. And then there's the whole "I have to go now or the wife will beat me up" bit. He's likeable, funny and, at times, brilliant but scary he ain't.

You, on the other hand, retain a tattered cloak of grouchiness. At least so far.

I don't think I'd ever call Pundit lovable, and he can certainly be an asshat at times, but I really appreciate how resolutely he avoids the Internet Cult Leader tactics of dickheads like Ron Edwards or Vox Day, who construct their own self-referential realities to build up their tiny cadres of devoted fanatics and pronounce anathema on everyone else. No one ever enrolled in Pundit's Evil Legion of Pipe Smoking True RPGers.

I think the fact that this very suggestion sounds inherently paradoxical is probably the biggest compliment to Pundit's self-conduct, regardless of your opinions on his persona or his tastes as an individual.

Do you have audio-only versions of these available for download somewhere? I like to listen to stuff like this on my stone-age mp3-player before I go to sleep.

Well, absolutely. It would be ridiculous, because my whole deal is individualism.

I'm afraid I don't.

I wonder if there isn't any program out there to turn youtube videos into audio-only? I mean that the user themselves could do?  I certainly wouldn't have any objection if people did that.

Yes there is. I'll use that then. I figured I'd just inquire first.

Well, Ayn Rand's whole deal was supposed to be individualism but she was an autocrat to her inner circle. So, the correlation isn't one to one.
