This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It's the current deal of the day on DriveThruRPG and I need a good cyberpunk RPG. Has anyone tried it and what do you think of it?

Caved in and bought. So far so good, the artwork is decent and mechanics seem solid. No injection of woke stuff, just good old gaming rules. I might do a review of this later on.

Nice one... I think I'll pick it up in that case. And if it 'aint woke that's usually worth a purchase by itself. ;)

Cheers!

I'll just leave this here too:

DAMA is the acronym for a left-wing terrorist group who seeks, by their words,
to liberate the citizens from the tyranny of fascism, and they see fascists every-
where. The fight will not—and by design cannot—end. Dama breaks out to
Demokratia-Akademia-Media-Anarkia.

REUNIFICATION FRONT
This is Dama’s wet-dream, an actual right-wing, hyper-jingoistic fascist terror
movement. They do not seek to unite people by skin color, they seek to unite the
Old Countries and rule them under a religio-conservative augmented fist.

LOL! If that's not tactfully handled critique of modern USA, I don't know what is.

Part of a lot of movement fiction was protagonists who were alienated from politics and instead deeply focused either on personal interests or in thrall to some dangerous former ally who is owed something or has been wronged. Thus they wanted to get ahead or to get out from under some impending threat.

They'd tend to look down on id-simps, people who rendered themselves stupid via self-nullification to belong to an ideology and be used by it just like a corpo-loyalist or a brand-trash-consumers or some dress-up freakshow who thinks a gang is a tribe instead of a business. They MIGHT get coaxed into joining up with someone trying to do something "important" but they were more like Han Solo than anyone else. And they believed in the market because they were usually trying to move something the market wanted and weren't very worried about black hats or slants of history.

In my experience cyberpunk settings tend to get homogeneous after a while, in a similar fashion to post-Tolkien fantasy. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s just an observation. So I haven’t developed a preference for any particular cyberpunk game. I’d be more interested in a cyberpunk game with generic rules and the option of multiple settings that do different things with the cyberpunk genre. Such as differences in scale: Earth, Solar system, or interstellar. Or genre combinations like cyberpunk space western, cyberpunk mech war, cyberpunk bug war, cyberpunk space western mech bug war, etc

I've listened to a couple of interviews with the game creator, and he's current military, and does not sound "woke" at all. Overall the content

The back story of the game really captures the political zeitgeist of the current day ,and extrapolates it to the extreme end. Native American groups litigate back much of their lands in response to McGirt v. Oklahoma. BLM takes over Atlanta and some other cities, Balkanization over politics occurs after a short but bloody civil war, and so on. He also specifically mentions social media suppressing certain factions. Lastly, he quotes Nova Rockafeller, AKA Tom McDonalds S.O., which suggests he's more likely right leaning than left.

As for the game it's self, overall its a pretty good adaptation of the cyberpunk genre reflected in modern events. I'm not sure I like the player facing rolls, but am willing to give it a go.

Also, there is a magic supplement than makes this game very Shadowrun, if you're interested.

That's cool, thanks for confirming. Even if the author is an SJW (which, on reading multiple times, doesn't sound like it), he doesn't take sides, so it's more moderate than left or even right-leaning.

And yeah, Rob if you are thinking of picking this up, I recommend it if only because the mechanics are solid. It seems to have everything I look for in a cyberpunk game without going into overly crunchy or narrative territory.

I havent finished my read of it, but yes, overall, it seems pretty solid. One interesting thing I read, is armor is ablative instead of adding to AC and will only stop at most a few shots before it's rendered useless. To offset that, there are simple, but effective cover rules. If you do the typical D&D trope of standing out in the open and exchanging fire, you WILL die.

Gunfights assumed a flurry of shots, emptying the magazine (Which he calls correctly. So many other games use the term "clips" IMO a sure signal of wokeness) in one round on handguns in Semi Auto, or at the end of the action in burst or full auto.

The main thing  I'm interested in seeing in actual play is how well the player facing dice rolls work. It seems some table like those rules, others do not. Of course that is super easy to house rule out.

Oh, and there is a second book that adds magic and fantasy races similar to Shadowrun. He uses a different backstory (two actually), uses species as role and notes the sexual dimorphism between males and females (Yes he uses those terms) The magic system is pretty similar to SR in feel as well.

TBH, I was doing a house ruled Shadowrun alternate game, and am thinking this may replace that idea. Overall I would give this game a solid 8/10 on my not yet finished reading.

Sweet... I just picked it up and a few of the supplements. I've only scanned it but it looks very cool.
