This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Even fixing issues like Super Strength, breaking Dexterity down a bit, or ending the Hit Points debate by making them equal Strength + Health becomes highly controversial as it impacts compatability.

David,

What is the HP debate?

When I went to school, i never got to use sex in science.
Me neither! Even when after first year science I changed to arts, I still didn't get any - and I certainly didn't get any in the classes we'd now call "woke", like Postmodernist Prose, and Feminist Fictions. There is nothing more asexual than people arguing about gender. You'd have better luck getting action after a medical vivesection class.

David,

What is the HP debate?

In first to third edition HP Sauce has only 37 varieties?

Really, it's Hit Points which are equal to Health in the earlier editions and Strength in the current edition.  The issue of course is dinosaurs.  If a T Rex have 300 Strength 10 Fatigue, 10 Health, and 300 Hitpoints, it's fairly clear that Strength is tied to mass and Health isn't so you'd have an abomination like ST 300/10,HT10/300 instead of just ST 300, HT 10.  The really sad thing is it would have worked great for superheroes if they'd just put some effort in from the start of fourth edition but instead you get abominations like ST1000/15, HT15.

Kind of reminds me of the Martians from War of the Worlds.

Gotcha. Thought it was that, just wanted to make sure. Easily solvable by making HP it's own attribute (like Hero 6E.)

About once a year I think "I'm going revisit that Gurps Heartbreaker I've been working on all these years" but two days later I realize there's too many things about Gurps I dislike. If I published it, the Gurps fans would hate it (What? No Weirdness Magnet? No Voice? Charisma is an att?) and the rest of the RPG world would hate it as well (What? Roll-under? 70 skills? Dodge rolls?)

It's becoming a strange transporter accident between Gurps, Hero, and a bit of D20.

My HP solution was to make HP = STR+HTH/2 That way you take both stats into account. It is kind of like the encumbrance stat I am making for my OSR game. Encumbrance = STR+CON/2.

I did ST + HT and upped damages by a die.  GURPS doesn't scale down any better than it scales up and putting 2d at 10 gives you more play on the lower end of things.
