This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

No ice for me, unless its some sort of mixed drink (but I wouldn't use a single malt for one of those).

I an old-fashioned glass with a few chunks of ice under a double pour. But I wouldn't turn yours down.

Make fun of my gaming preferences all you like, but keep your filthy, pox-ridden opinions away from my musical tastes.

Flacid mangina verse/chorus music. Gay. Love the hipster glasses.

Metal and film scores are where it's at, come on, man.

But then there are people who DIDN'T grow up in a trailer park.

Taste-maker, thy name is Declan.

In fairness, all four of Costello's good songs are good.

We're not going to know what impact - if any - Monte's presence or absence had/will have on 'Next' until after it's out and maybe some scuttlebutt surfaces.  It does seem, however, that his departure looks really bad for WotC regardless of the "why" behind it.

I think it's interesting that he specifically called out the fact that he could/would consult or freelance for WotC in the future.  Doesn't want to burn the bridge, which makes sense.  Consider also the possibility that whatever they're doing will have a GSL he tolerates - or stuff that can be OGL-simulated - and he can always put out "Monte Cook's Cutting-Room-Floor Version of D&DNext" down the line.

"MalhavocNext", anyone?

I would buy it.

I would by all of them. Then use them as kindling to burn Monte at the stake.

Seriously, homeboy needs to give up the gaming thing and just go into accounting. He'd probably make more money, anyway.

Most of us probably don't aspire to become professional game designers because we don't want to take a pay cut.

You amuse me. I like Monte's designs so your opinion on the matter means less than nothing to me. You do have a point about the pay scale though.  But in reality if you enjoy your job pure money is of far less importance.

Well congrats. No one else gives a shit, so your arguments are a waste of breath.

Quote from: thecasualoblivion;537133It isn't any worse than the Batman fanboys shitting on the new Avengers movie on IMDB. My personal favorite was the guy who claimed that the only reason Avengers broke 200 million was because people came to see the new Batman trailer.

I heard it was because they wanted to see the trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Money is all about degree though. Whilst you might take a 30% pay cut to work on D&D would you take a 90% pay cut and would your significant other then speak to you again?

Monte was divorced just before he went back to WOTC. Doubt income had anything to do with that, however lifestyle might have.

In reality, It would be less stressful and more fun for me to work a minimum wage job in a convenience store, but my current occupation keeps me in Glemmorangie Lasanta and Arturo Fuente Hemngway's which brings me just slightly more pleasure than being snarky to consumers all day long.

I was more or less agreeing with you that if money was the focus being a game designer isn't the best career choice. So I'm thinking money may not be his ultimate focus. What do I know though?
