I want to do a noir RPG campaign either in the vein of classic noir movies or possibly something akin to Sin City.  I am currently looking at Mean Streets Expanded by the Pundit https://www.pigames.net/store/product_info.php?products_id=432 and The Big Crime by Spectrum Games http://www.spectrum-games.com/products2.html.

Any idea which one your would recommend going with? Which do you feel is superior for capturing the flavor of film noir?

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

Interesting. I think I remember seeing 'The Big Crime' somewhere (possibly the Trove before it got turfed) but I'm not familiar with either of those systems anyways.

Noir is more of a setting concept, not a mechanic, though. You should be able to use most systems to run this (okay, running noir with Exalted might be a bit of a challenge. Though that would make for a fascinating campaign).

i have a copy of Mean Streets.

It's a genreDiversion system game which is 2D6 based. It uses templates, story ideas, to let you build a film noir crime story adventure and it tries to capture a feel that way. Maybe Brett needs to chime in. It seems like it is more about conflict and getting out of being framed more than planning a caper or having some sort of mob territory and power struggle. I'm not sure how film noir works with a group of players in the traditional sense when normally it is about one guy trying to navigate a bleak world to find out who is lying and what possible way out of the big crunch there can be but the game tries to make it doable.

I have not played the other game.

For other systems:

I am fond of The Edge of Midnight, which is Noir with magic. Not quite Blood Shadows, but it scratches the itch.

Just curious, since it is the same time period for the Hard Boiled, how is Call of Cthulhu and/or Call of Cthulhu pulp for Film Noir?
