This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Some people seem to be interested in moving from fantasy settings to SF settings.

In order to help them, here's a list of products that can help people set up and run good SFRPG universes.

So's this one.

Note that while some products are linked to a specific system, the general advice they give on the topic of creating and running a SFRPG universe is..universal.

There are a couple major books aimed at helping GM's get going. Starhero by hero games and gurps space. Both are big, expensive and possibly too much for a starting SFGM The ones above are smaller, more focused on the basics a beginner needs and less intimidating, plus they lack a lot of extraneous details like calculating a space bodies albedo or black body radiation that most GMs have no use for.

Though it's a low-budget product if there ever was one, I had a lot of fun using that in a Traveller20 game. It had some interesting and bizarro ideas.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

Yes, a lot of the weapons in it were justifiable in traveller, some obviously weren't. All in all an excellent product and, despite its cheap, homemade on a free 3d modeller art, well worth getting.

Some of the offhand notes on some of the weapons could be a springboard for a decent GM to create an entire world or campaign. The notes in "Idiot guns" were worth their weight in gold, and the idea of a "particularly callous of mercantile society" selling disposable pistols out of vending machines makes one think of such a world...

Of course the best aid for a SFGM aspirant is to actually read some good SF novels. Anyone care to offer suggestions?

Ringworld.
The Eternity artifact.
The forever war.
Hammer's Slammers.
