Mapping program ('hex-style')?

Hey all,

I was wondering if there was a mapping program that created 'hex-based' maps similar to the old Mystara maps (as found in the various Gazetteers)?  It would be great if there was one that could be downloaded for free.

While I greatly prefer to draw my own maps the old-fashioned way, I'm planning on starting up a PbP game in the near future, and it would be a lot simpler to make available maps made on my computer than going through the trouble of scanning, etc.

Thanks!

There totally is, and I can't find the link to it now.

It was linked off of that thread on RPGsite where people were linking images of maps. I'm at work right now, but I grabbed a copy of it and it works great.

Edit: it's on this thread. Somewhere.

There's a PC emulator available for the Mac which allows you to run PC programs   as if on a PC.

It's been a while since I looked at them, so I can't be sure of the funcations:

AutoRealm is free, open source. Not sure if you can get a version for Mac.
Fractal Mapper offers a trial version. Ooops, that one is definitely PC, so you'll need an emulator.

I'll see what else I can find on my server at home tonight....

Inkscape does ok for doing Adobe Illustrator type things, esp. for free.

You could download Hexmapper and make vector versions of the hexes included therein (i.e. scaleable). Also download the other hexes and there are more in the Yahoo Group. Same with the other dungeon type programs mentioned upthread.
