This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Tantric entry can suffice for that, i reckon.

I have a position in my 'world' called a wildcatter. Basically it is a person who was not trained at all and has no one who is willing to train her/himself. To learn how to do magic is to read books and experiementing as well as accidently stumbling over how to do a particular magic by pure accident. Of course this is in my world and never has been found in any other world in my knowledege.

Just happen to remember one called Templer Knights but I don't know very much about them.
I am new here and would like to have a few good RP friends.

Some from Arduin:

Rune Weaver - Manipulates raw mana, time consuming but flexible (can "unweave" other casters' spells).

Saint - Pacifistic healer and protector.

Star Powered Mage - Very powerful, but limited and risky, magic due to a symbiotic gem.
And we are here as on a darkling plain  ~ Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight, ~ Where ignorant armies clash by night.

Phillip

Some from Chivalry & Sorcery:

A master of illusions who imbues spells in powders and perfumes (called the Thaumaturgist in C&S).

Kabbalist - The C&S version is more "generic" than specifically Jewish, similar to your "Rune" entries (but can inscribe sigils in the air).

Power Word Mystic - Master of words and commands (like True Names in Earthsea).

Magic Square Mystic - Works magic by mathematics.

Solitary Hex Master - Lawful, uses knowledge of black magic and demonology to fight evil.
And we are here as on a darkling plain  ~ Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight, ~ Where ignorant armies clash by night.

- I'd like to point out that "Augurer" is not a realy word for someone who practices Augury. The real word is "Augur".

- What's a "sandestin" or "sandestine"? The word is used in the list, but Google only brings up hotel names.

- Add Haruspex.
Obvious troll is obvious. RIP, Bill.

A couple more:

Symbolic Logician - Travels across parallel universes, like De Camp & Pratt's Harold Shea.

Moon Mage - Powers wax and wane with the cycles of a moon.
And we are here as on a darkling plain  ~ Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight, ~ Where ignorant armies clash by night.

A sort of shapeshifting jinni, imp or demon that the arch-magicians of Jack Vance's Dying Earth employ (often to their rue as the creatures wilfully misinterpret instructions).

The Shining Ones - A group of wealthy and powerful aristocrats who secretly draw their power from monsters deep in the ocean trenches, telekinetics mostly accompanied by a white light glowing around them and from their eyes
"These children are playing with dark and dangerous powers!"
"What else are you meant to do with dark and dangerous powers?"

Blue Mage - a wizard who can copy any spell that was previously cast on him by someone else.

The only class I ever bothered to borrow from FF series.

Blood Wizard - a magician who draws his magical power from sacrifice of lifeforce, usually humanoid or his own.

Wait.... is this OP a list of ANY magic-using class from ANY RPG? Because that's just fucking crazy.  When you get to the Palladium products alone you'll be royally screwed.

If its just a D&D/OSR/D20-games (ie. anything that has called itself D&D or been identified as a "copy" of D&D), that would still be a huge list, the D20 books would bring in a flood of classes (especially if prestige classes count).

Crazy enough to sticky - I just did a quick google search there and couldn't find anything similar that was half decent. Turn it into a sticky wiki and cross reference everything, in fact! Good resource and great thinking, let's have every magic using type from every book, every movie, every game, every cartoon, every series, everything!

Herbalist - one who creates magic from mixing herbs and potions, sometimes smokes
An Invoker - caster of holy magics, a cross between a magic user and a priest
A Hermit - a magic user who lives on his own away from society
Incantatar - an Enchanter, the female form, Incantatrix, is more common
Medicine Man - from the North American Indians - a person believed to posses magical or supernatural powers
Prophet - a man who speaks for a god or some other deity, or by divine inspiration, usually used to refer to someone who has visions
Technomages - men who use high technology to mimic the effects of magic
"These children are playing with dark and dangerous powers!"
"What else are you meant to do with dark and dangerous powers?"

I'll update the list later this evening.

Personally, i'd prefer sticking to stuff that's at least slightly unique, rather than having 55 setting specific names for 'Necromancer' or some-such.

However, if people do want such a resource, then we need a lot of people to commit to researching it. Experience tells me we won't get there.

i suggest u add these

Distorters - A magic user who specializes in (or practices only) manipulating reality, and/or creating physical phenomena.

Inyanga - a traditional healer, especially one who uses herbal medicines.

Mancer - A suffix used to indicate the kind of magic a magic user practices or specializes in,

Vikans - The people who follow the Druids’ religion. Where the Druids’ are the ‘priests’ the Vikans are the common believers. Both regular Vikans and Druids were persecuted by the church.

Psion - A term for a magic-user who specializes in using psychic power, rather than flashes of light or complex rituals or any tools at all.

Rune Knights - Known to be an evolved knight, Rune Knights can cast offensive and defensive spells to aid themselves in combat. Often seen with clothes covered in runes of ancient and mysterious power, they can buff themselves to be a front line fighter unlike normal magic users who often are deposed of quickly.
