Are any of you going to be looking at any Lulu alternatives?  What's your take on the bump in shipping costs?

I've been looking since this came up.  I mean, Amazon has BookSurge, but I know nothing about it.

There was one I heard about recently called Createspace or some such.  I heard from them mainly because there was a "prize" offered for the Nanowrimo thing that basically amounted to them listing your book and sending you a copy.  I thought it was such a joke to offer something as a "prize" that would cost you next to nothing to do yourself that it sort of stuck in my mind.

I think I'll be going with Quality POD, since they can do hardbacks for those interested in them. However, I've not checked on their shipping costs. I was planning on listing books with those who CAN do the shipping (Key 20 most likely.)

Yes, this. Aldo from Impressions recommended them and I will be talking with them soon about Roma True20. Vixen has gone into bankruptcy so I need a new POD printer.

Booksurge is very questionable. I would avoid them.

It appears that lulu.com have just had a fuckup. They dropped a lot of their regular delivery options, leaving only the madly expensive ones. They are working to fix this. They made a mistake and are fixing it.

I leave it to you guys whether you think it's worth dealing with a company that makes such big fuckups and then takes weeks or months to fix them...

There's also lightning source which has been presented as a good alternative to lulu, but it's more for just submitting your own work to get printed and not a retail outlet that holds your work for customers.

I tried Lightning Source and found the quality to be hit or miss, so I cancelled my account with them.

I have heard only negative second hand info about Booksurge.   Has anyone used them for a project?  What are the problems?

I have looked into Amazon's CreateSpace and that looks solid, especially since they expanded their size options.   I have not see the quality yet.  Has anyone ordered a Createspace book?

This is what worries me. Lulu has excellent quality, and thus my games may be laid out like a drunken blind man with Attention Deficit Disorder did them, but by gosh and gee willikers, they'll last and the ink won't smudge to spoil the ugliness!

I have no idea about CreateSpace's quality.
