This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). What steampunk/gaslight fantasy RPG to choose?

I can't say it's that good of a game, honestly. Amazing Adventures does Victorian pulp better if you like the SIEGE engine, and if you don't then there are a lot of other games you're better off playing. Then again, I am not even a fan of steampunk stuff, so whatever.

I have Victorious, and have been able to run it and play it with my Discord group and it included Mr Stewart for some of the game.

I would say it is great for what it is made for, AFTER you master the art of creating your character. It is made to be a Victorian Steampunk SUPER HERO game, with the focus on super hero. It took me a while to make good characters and there is an art to that part of the game. You can make a character that is so super focused on one thing that they suck at EVERYTHING else, or you can make a character the is 'good' at a lot of things but not truly GOOD at anything.  There is a sweet spot, and you have to learn how to use the rules to get there.

Once you do, the game can be very versatile. We ran a btb Victorian era American based game, I ran a modern lower powered spy/hero (loosely based on the TV show Person of Interest), & a Poe level of horror, and someone else ran a high fantasy medieval game with it. All of them came out great AFTER everyone wrapped their minds around making a good useful character.

I also have and have played/ran Amazing Adventures. Again that is great for a class based Pulp adventure. With a little work it can be retrofitted back to Victorian from its focus of pulp time (pre-post WWII). It is a class based game so A LOT easier to make a character than Victorious but a lot less versatile.

I have the CoC Gaslight rules, and like the CoC rules. It should be easy enough to strip out the 'Lovecraft' horrors from the game to make it generic gaslight steam punk. Plus with some of the more recent Chaosium games/CoC supplements, you can add in some spells or other useful rules setting stuff (Rivers of London for magic Fey etc) However, the CoC characters can be very squishy compared to other games so you might have to use some pulp CoC etc to buff up the characters a bit.

I have and love the ole Masque of Red Death. I actually use it as the basis of the above mention Victorious Poe game.

I remember Space 1989 back in the day when I was in HS (way too many years ago) and enjoyed it back then. But, it was so long ago & I haven't played the newer versions of it so anything I say would be romantic rose colored glass memory not a realistic advice

In my head, I conflated this with the Necroscope RPG for the Masterbook system, based on the Brian Lumley books.

Same.
