This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Listen, you fucking retard, I don't need to be told by some internet halfwit to 'read a history book'. The fucking MAN SAID IT HIMSELF. So take your revisionist bullshit and shove it.

I love when american morons read something somewhere and magically think they're experts.
Gentile wrote an essay, "La filosofia di Marx" (Marx philosophy), and that book was lauded by Lenin himself as "one of the best books on Marx ever written by a non Marxist".
And now go fuck yourself, it's not the first time that on this board some retard tries to pass the idea that fascists and nazis are "left wing"; being Italian (as in, born, raised and living in Italy from a family living there since at least the Middle Ages) I find somewhat insulting this actual revisionism by ignorant yankees.
I'm here to talk about RPGs, so if you want to talk about storygames talk with someone else.

This is NOT the thread to debate political philosophy.  You're very close to getting a ban wave.

Quote from: wmarshal on March 22, 2024, 11:40:57 AMExalted Funeral has forced another creator to submit. They're putting Outcast Silver Raiders through the struggle session. I fully expect that is anything further comes out for Outcast Silver Raiders it will be utter crap.

From the Outcast Silver Raider Discord:
@everyone At the advice of Exalted Funeral, I had a sensitivity reader come in to take a look at the books before the upcoming second printing. Most of their feedback was around minor language changes to make clear that there is no exclusionary intent in some situations where it could have been unclear.

One large change that was a miss from me was using the phrase "Spirit Animal" in the Referee's Compendium and throughout The Mythic North. I had a blind spot here and didn't take the time to consider the origins of that phrase, or how it is a clear and insensitive co-opting of meaningful terminology for indigenous cultures and religions.

There's a big difference between the considered satirical inclusion of an institution like the Catholic Church, which has been part of the power structure of the world for millennia, and the casual misappropriation of a chronically marginalized and exploited culture.

I can't do anything about the first printing at this point but apologize, but I'd like to do so now. I'm sorry I missed on this, and regret putting something racist out there in the world.

For the second printing and associated updated PDFs, this error (among others) has been corrected. These edits do nothing to change the content, texture, or horrific spirit of Outcast Silver Raiders. They simply make a bit more effort towards ensuring everyone can enjoy the occult medieval madness without feeling excluded or marginalized.

Is this a mandate for Exalted Funeral for all products on their site they must go through a sensativity reader before they get published on their platform?

if so then this is the death knell for anything further from the OSE world from me.

I have a similar concern. I don't know just how tied at the hip Necrotic Gnome is to Exalted Funeral. I know they're heavily intertwined now. Exalted Funeral having sensitivity readers to act as political commissars and conduct struggle sessions wasn't something I had expected.

Dolmenwood was originally going to have a class called "minstrel", which was a bard, basically. However, the term "minstrel" has racist overtones, as it turns out, so the class name was changed to "bard".

I know it is a minor thing, but Pinnacle Entertainment Group is starting to adopt woke language in their books.  I noticed they have replaced "Race" with "Ancestry" in their last couple products.

So, I was looking for an alternative to GenCon because I don't want to give them money, and I went to look at GaryCon to see what they offered for games. Low and behold, the last one in March had all the letters in the progressive pride flag colors. Told me everything I needed to know about the con.

Quote from: Monero on May 02, 2024, 10:03:18 AMThe TTRPG community has ALWAYS been about kindness and human dignity. It's just older creators/players didn't have to do performative nonsense in order to gain social media dopamine hits.

It does suck that you have to do that. But for whatever reason, there are a lot of people on this site who seem to feel they have to keep congratulating each other for saying the same tired and basically baseless things.

I was definitely queer before social media existed at all, so honestly I have no idea what you are going on about.

I hadn't even gone through puberty yet, when I started playing characters that explored the frontiers of gender. I didn't even have a clear understanding in my mind of what it meant. I just knew that I didn't fit the rules of gender presentation as they were taught to me, and eventually, it became a vehicle of self-exploration.

I had dated men and women before the Player's Options books ever saw print.

I played in an all-Hispanic adult game of D&D under the 3.0 rules-set, before 3.5 was ever printed.

I never jumped on any bandwagon. I was very much a part of the generation that brought RPGs into the mainstream, and I brought all these personal characteristics with me.

You say "performative nonsense," I say, I'm sorry it hurts your feelings that I exist. Go hug a teddy bear.

You totally missed the fucking point. The point is the RPG community has ALWAYS been inclusive. Even back in the day when I started playing in '81. IT's more important that you're a gamer. Not your gender, sexual preference, politics, or whatever.

Meanwhile today, you have the "true believers" in D.E.I. that gaslight everyone saying the RPG community is just a bunch of white guys, which is a crock of shit.

I don't think most people here think this way, but I'm at the point where any term BUT race is a huge flag to me.  "Species" in a science fiction game gets a pass, obviously, but where "race" is the proper term, the replacement is a very vocal and performative surrender, and of course any discussion of this topic will get you banned once the change has gone into effect.  I wouldn't be shocked if the big forums start having rules against using the term race- either a few months after D&D makes the switch, or after the next overdose death near a cop is politicized and used for anti-white politics (which is probably a few years away still).

But I think it's not considered a big deal by most, because it's not an overt act of hatred of customers like so many others, just one minor whispered prayer to their shitty belief system.

Gencon doesn't miss a chance to shake their little political tushie whenever they can.

This now-yearly thing is odd for sure- it racializes something that used to transcend race.

Wyloch's Armory (the Youtube channel) is kickstarting a his flagship product, a cyberpunk game called Neon Skies.  Sadly, he too has decided to use the term "Ancestry" instead of "Race."  Now, I have watched his channel for years (he does terrain crafting) and he never said anything inflammatory, political, etc. ever - in fact, I had no idea where he stood on any of these issues until Neon Skies gave a little bit away.

Venka - I hear you, I flat out refuse to buy products that use any term but Race (or species in Sci-Fi).  It's like I am just trying to enjoy some escapism with some friends, and then "Ancestry" is a huge woke, leftist hand slapping me across the face and ruining everything.  I sent Pinnacle a polite email letting them know I would not be purchasing their products until they revert back to "Race."  I also let Bill at Wyloch's Armory know when I cancelled my pledge for Neon Skies - again, polite, but letting him know why.

I believe RQ 3 used species, which wasn't a deal-breaker. It was sometime around 1988 when I got the game and left D&D behind for a good decade. It's too bad modern Chaosium is woke.

Race, Ancestry, Heritage, Ethnicity, yadda yadda - I couldn't care less. They're all synonyms referring to different variations within a species, or what would be breeds if we were talking about animals.

Species is a scientific term indicating a unique genome with implications for members of different species' ability to produce viable, fertile offspring. I hate when games misapply that scientific term as 2024 DnD appears poised to do.

Personally I find Race vs. Ancestry a strange hill to die on, but hey that's the beauty of America - to each their own.

Exactly.  I realize Race vs. Ancestry is probably more annoying to me than most.  Everyone has different red lines they won't cross when it comes to the culture war and giving companies money.  This list helps so much with that - letting us know what companies are doing and then we can decide what we will and will not buy.

I think it's more to do with changing terms that everyone is already familiar with, If you're making some sort of D&D-type game, "race" is pretty much baked in, and using a different word can be seen as obnoxious. It's like creating a level-based game but calling levels "ranks" or "tiers". It's stupid and adds nothing. Everyone who plays RPGs knows what race means in context, so changing it is either virtue signaling or being a dick. Neither of which is good.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

Then why change it?

Not sure if this is thread for that, but I would like to suggest to the guy who is still maintaining this list in Google Docs to put a bit more details about WotC, preferably with links to evidence. Although Wizards itself would deserve an entire document listing all their bad decisions, both the woke ones and the ones from pure greed and/or incompetence.
