RPGPundit

So, I have been promised by my publisher that Lion & Dragon will be out this coming week. It may not be out in every format and in every venue, but eventually we'll have it at OBS, Amazon and Lulu, in softcover, hardcover and PDF!

Part of the delay was that the last time I made this announcement, along with a cover reveal, we didn't know that in actual print the old cover we'd selected didn't actually end up looking as good as the digital version.

This time, we've gone with a new cover, which we hope will be to your satisfaction:

Let us know what you think, and stay tuned and save your pennies, because in just a few days YOU will be able to order Lion & Dragon, the premiere Medieval-Authentic OSR RPG, for yourself!

I like this one a lot more. I am intrigued enough to buy it, but I haven't been keeping up on what L&D is.

What was it again? An expansion to Dark Albion? Something totally new? What kind of play style does it fit? Like, super gritty Fantasy Vietnam stuff, something like Pathfinder or 5th edition, etc.
Battle doesn\'t need a purpose; the battle is its own purpose. You don\'t ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don\'t ask why I fight.

Dumarest

I like how you got a lion and a dragon amongst the fighting men.

Gronan of Simmerya

That's a king of England pre-Edward III and a prince of Wales.

Also, what's the difference between "Lion and Dragon" and "Dark Albion"?
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

The rules can\'t cure stupid, and the rules can\'t cure asshole.

That's a much better cover. The old one looked horrible digitally, I can't imagine how bad the print version must have been.

Although what is that guy in blue holding in his hand besides an axe? A frisbee?

K Peterson

Like the cover art. Like the text logo. Still think the lion and dragon images are too big, and don't look well integrated into the logo (just tacked in awkwardly). "Medieval Authentic OSR Roleplaying" and "RPGPundit" look too big to me, as well.

But, what do I know. I'm not going to be buying this anyway.

It's a vamplate on the axe haft to protect the hand.

Will this game have a presence on this forum? I mean a new campaign/play by post? I assume the setting focuses on Britain, how are knights (as example) handled from other lands like the Holy Roman Empire or Hungary? Are there special skills/traits depending on origin?

DavetheLost

Where are the spaceships and lasers?

Seriously though, this gives me a clear picture of what you mean by "medieval" which can cover about a thousand years in popular usage.

OK I admit it could mean anything since Charlemagne, and at that point the HRE or Hungary wouldn't exist yet, but it isn't a thousand years.

It is not uncommon to see the Middle Ages defined as 500-1500 which would be 1,000 years.

I asked that a week or two ago; the short version is that Lion and Dragon is a system and Dark Albion is a setting. But I expect they are engineered to go together like beans and toast.

It's not an expansion to Albion; Albion is a setting, and L&D is a system. It's a set of rules for playing in a Medieval-Authentic game emulating the late middle ages, for a world like Albion.  But you can use it in any other setting that has medieval-authentic elements.

It is certainly gritty, in a medieval sense, not a 'fantasy vietnam' sense. It's gritty in the way Game of Thrones is gritty.
