Quote from: jesse_covner;453983Hi, you are right that it is a no-no in business.  And I should be better than to reply with snark.  But this is not just about business.  This is about some schmuck attacking my friend.  Replying how I did was wrong.  But I just can't get myself to feel guilty about it.

Jenna Moran (her current legal name) has multiple degrees and a Phd in Computer sciences.

Multiple degrees, check.

QuoteShe is well versed in world mythologies, biblical studies, and philosophy.

Religious studies expert here.

QuoteShe is extremely moral (to a fault) and demands that I, as a manager of her publisher, act far more moral than I normally would.

Well, that doesn't speak very well of you.

QuoteShe writes with feeling and a unique, humorous (but often exceptionally dark) style.  And she knows that the quality we call "intelligence" is mostly just an act that people use to make themselves seem superior, coupled with some verbal and memorization skills.  She knows that.

Really? If she knows that, then how the fuck is it that she can't manage to string together a coherent sentence? By that I mean: to speak plainly enough that you don't need a set of translations to try to guess at what she meant ("borgstromancy")?  She's become a living joke, the very textbook definition in the RPG world of the "incomprehensible author", and has gangs of pseudo-intellectuals running around defending her by claiming "if you don't understand, its just because you're not smart enough".  You yourself jumped in here pretty much on that same note, the very first thing you did was try to claim that I didn't get her because I wasn't as smart as she was.

I think that she certainly "knows" that if you write long flowery sentences full of twee sentiment, byzantine words and trying to make your sentence as obtuse as possible, people will mistake your incomprehensibility for intellect ("she writes in a really complicated way, she MUST be smart!"), and she's made a career out of milking that for all its worth in the form of fashionable idiots who dig her because it lets them pretend they too are smarter than anyone else for liking her.

QuoteBut her style is not fake.  She does not write in order to make others think higher of her.

I suspect it is in fact fake.  But if it isn't, that's even sadder. It means that even with her "multiple degrees" (or perhaps because of it, I've certainly seen that syndrome in more than a few academics) she never actually learned how to COMMUNICATE effectively.
You're not smart if you can't get people to understand you easily.

QuoteI stand by my earlier comments; the fact that Pundit claimed that her writing is pretentious, and claims that RPG books are [must be] technical books shows to me that Jenna is probably more intelligent than he is.  My comments may last for years and those who don't like me may use my words to hurt me.  But years from now people will also know than when people try to throw crap on my friends, I'll throw it back.

Oh, bully for you. You've defended someone you have a vested interest in defending and failed the professionalism test in the process. And you sure hurt my feelings! Someone who's part of a crowd that likes to pretend everyone is less intelligent than they are telling me I'm less intelligent than their icon, I'm not just offended but astonished!  You twit.

That's rich, given that you're having this conversation in my "home".

Are you saying you're not intentionally controversial, hyperbolic, aggressive, etc., in order to drive site traffic, create a following, and so on? Are you saying I'm having a discussion with a real person as opposed to an online persona created to be outspoken and polarizing?

I'm saying that your analogy is absurd.  My "home" is one of the largest rpg forums on the internet, and my opinions are widely read; shitloads more than yours, anyways. So which of us is the crazy ranting homeless guy, again? The one who has proven himself successful time and time again at directing conversation, or the loser who spends his time on other people's sites showing off his envy?

Your right.  I agree.  I was dumb

Quote from: Seanchai;453992Basically, you're the Pope and you've just sent out a press release saying that wild-haired homeless guy on the corner with the sign that reads "Repent! The End is Near!" is crazy and that we shouldn't listen to him because the End isn't near.

Except...I'm not the Pope.  I'm a guy struggling to get some projects out the door in what is essentially a three-man company.  So...its all personal for us.

I wouldn't worry about it, i doubt the people arguing are interested in the game anyway.

Hi,

I'll reply to this today.

When creating this system, there was the goals to:
a. Simulate the action in Wuxia *genre* (both movies and novels equally)
b. Avoid making the simulation "crunchy"
c. And if possible, make the system an evolution from WotG.

I'm not sure I can answer your question, but I will try to by giving you an example using the movie "Reign of Assassins" (劍雨 , or Rain of Blades).  Two main assassin (Assassin A, B) anti-heros and a bunch of mobs (uh...unimportant cannon fodder which could do some damage) come to a house to kill the the main hero Drizzle's (played by Michelle Yeoh) husband - Ah-Sheng.  Ah-Sheng is  actually a hero of the Wulin in disguise.  Assassin A uses thrown needles as his main attack.  Not knowing that Ah Sheng is of the Wulin, he tells Ah Sheng that he can kill him mercifully.  Ah Sheng, using some Secret Arts, verbally announces the observation that needles, a ranged weapon, do not work well in-doors.  Assassin A now starts the combat with a minor Qi condition and possibly some existing ripples because he lost confidence.

Everyone attacks. Swords fly out. Mobs are dispatched quickly.    Attacks go back and forth, but Ah Sheng seems to get several hits on Assassin A and B, causing them to accumulate ripples.  Although none of those hits chops off a limb, or even draws blood, it is clear that Ah Sheng is doing better than the others.  Suddenly Ah Sheng criticals Assassin A, causing a role of all the accumulated ripple pool.  The result indicates more than a Major-Condition. Assassin A is taken out.  And fitting the story, in this case, taken-out means dead.  However, the Sage ( in this case,  directors Su Chao-Pin and John Woo) decides to let Assassin A stagger home so that he can fulfill a promise to his wife and eat one last bowl of noodles in thin broth.  Assassin B starts to flee, but Ah Sheng scores a strike on her - slicing her across her back by throwing his sword like a throwing knife - and he uses dice from his river to disarm her.  After she flees, she must role her ripple pool (which is then zero-ed out because combat is over).  It turns out that the wound she took after fleeing the combat caused her to have a major Qi condition which basically prevented her from using most of her Qi, making her useless in combat.  She therefore must seek out a remedy from the main bad dude, The Wheel King.

Says the dude who thinks frothing at the mouth, peppering his posts with personal attacks, and cussing up a storm passes for conversation and debate.

But let me clue you in why a lengthy rebuttal is unnecessary: "We know Pundit is crazy. We know he is not a reliable source of information. We know his opinions are distorted, intentionally hyperbolic, and designed to be controversial...The situation is self-evident." I highlight that last bit so hopefully comprehension will dawn over you...

Thanks for the response.

So if I am understanding correctly, the whole "river", "ripple" terminology isn't just a story element, but is simulating the actual flow, emanations, what have you of Qi?

Also it seems that combat which results in some form of Qi effect, effects the character in ways directly related to Qi or combat, it other words, I can't have a "complication" in my character's personal or social life arise from "fallout" from combat damage.  Is that basically correct?

It would seem there's quite a few here who disagree.  And quite a few more who may not like what I say, but are sick to death of your endless drivel meant to somehow "get" me, your one-man crusade of idiocy.
