This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm looking (after buying the compiled LBB 0-8) for something detailing the history of the Imperium, more background info/races/tidbits, etc.
TTB is a hardback compilation of books 1-3. Nice format, but not exactly what you're after.
The past lives on in your front room
The poor still weak the rich still rule
History lives in the books at home
The books at home

okay cool...yeah, what i'm looking for is a lot of (i guess?) setting fluff...like, how are messages sent in space (iirc communications isn't FTL) and that sort of thing.  someone mentioned the megatraveller books as a possible source for this sort of info.

thanks,

It does have information on the Imperium, though, along with library data, and a map and description of Regina Subsector in the Marches.

Enough to get a start.

I'd drop the cash on the CD-ROM, personally.  Rules, tons of info on the Imperium setting, the aliens books, etc.
For fuck\'s sake, these are games, people.

And no one gives a fuck about your ignore list.

If you want hardcopies, get the Classic Supplements reprint.  The JTAS volumes also would have a lot of information that's right up your alley.

Cool, thanks for the tip, Ken!  The CD sounds perfect, so i'll wait patiently for that. ;)

For CT that was Supplement 8 Library Data (A-M) & Supplement 11 Library Data (N-Z), which are collected in FFE's Supplement collection.

MegaTraveller also had a nice one book Imperial Encyclopedia, though it suffers from having a Referee's section that has the "real info" on several subjects that had changed/been distorted with the start of the Rebellion. It's on PDF through DriveThruRPG and on the MT cd-rom (though the later has some scanning issues). There are some online editions but they're just the A-Z entries IIRC.

GURPS Traveller (core book 2nd edition) is a nice update of the previous books along with some good sidebars covering common question areas of the game. It does however assume GURPS technology levels and has GURPS chargen (along with conversion notes from other versions).

The Traveller Book is LBB 1-3 + some intro bits, a subsector, some patrons/adventure seeds/NPCs, two blah adventures, and some more art. There's a slight difference between the softcover and the hardcover version ruleswise but it's very minor. A good CT compilation (though it doesn't add in more gear, skills, or careers and doesn't include the space combat range band system from Starter Traveller) but not really a primer on the Third Imperium.

QLI's Gateway domain book (Gateway to Adventure?) has a good writeup of the setting/Third Imperium in the context of 998 in Gateway but it's not an overall view.

Currently QLI and FFE's sites are semi-down as they change servers.
