Or will it be Mark Rein Hagen's Pastamania?

It's more worrisome if his arrival calls others from their RPGy graves. Foul Ole Ron stirs back to life. Imagine Ron, Rein*Hagen, Baker and Crane making one game together.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

Quote from: RPGPundit;667382Well, I have enormous confidence in him; though he could be a bit rusty, you never know... plus these days, he faces stiffer competition.  Back in his golden age, he could seem like the most motherfucking pretentious wanker just by having a bunch of vampires lazying around dressed in frills and black drinking blood out of wineglasses bemoaning how awful it is to be superpowerful immortals.
These days, he has to compete with the pretentiousness of dudes who write RPGs about sexually deviant victorian college professors, or misery-porn about the holocaust, slavery, or child abuse.   Its a different world.

Maybe, but Mark ReinIthinkit'ssupposedtorepresentastarbutIdon'tknowwhichoneIreckonmaybeAltairorFomalhautHagen is still the only one who insists on including a small image in his name that's not actually a letter of the fucking alphabet. These new pretentious kids have nothing on him.
Obvious troll is obvious. RIP, Bill.

Never happen.  They hate Rein*hagen more than I do; their rep as being the true Radical thinkers depends on it.
You'll be more likely to see "the RPGPundit's World of Darkness" than to ever see a collaboration between White Wolf and the Forge Swine (unless the former utterly capitulate to storygaming; the latter will, as we well know, never capitulate to RPGs).

Ron Edwards' GNS diatribe up to and including the comments about cranial trauma are rooted in offences taken at how the WoD allegedly shaped a generation of gamers for the worse.

Pretty much this, despite the fact that Sorcerer (which you could very easily argue is Ron's only truly successful game) is downright rooted in the White Wolf aesthetic and approach.

It's kind of like edition wars: spats between factions which seem to have the most compatible goals and the broadest overlap in their tastes always end up having more bad blood involved than squabbles between folks with entirely different interests.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

Actually, he's dropped the bullet/star/dot lately.  I suggest he compensate by adding a pretentious umlaut and a third barrel to the name: Mark Rein-Hägen-Dasz.

Necessity. As long as WW's games were considered the pretentious "avant garde" of gaming, there was no room for Edwards to be the hipster hero of radical gaming.  He needed to sacrifice the previous generation of Swine so that he could be the new Swine King.

It might be off topic, but "RPGPundit's World of Darkness" could be awesome if it had the same sensibilities about gaming that LoO and AoI had.

I kinda feel this is like an old man trying to be desperately cool, and totally misunderstanding why something is cool.*

I hate to think that really, I hope he pulls it off. But Zombies are actually already getting stale--hence why we've got Zombie Romantic Comedies, and such.

*Then again, I've never known or cared what was cool, so I might not the best to predict such things.

I was never a big vampire fan, but I do remember when it came out and how huge it was. I think it was that combo of very playable setting mixed with right genre for the right time. I will agree, the time for zombie was probably about five or even ten years ago, but if he comes up with a twist on the concept that produces a highly playable setting, I think there is enough interest that it will be succesful (I like zombie apocalypse as a setting, but lots of players and GMs have a hard time with that as a backdrop for an rpg. Long campaigns can be tough to maintain). However, this one does seem like a bit of a longshot to me because the concept feels a bit harder to digest.

Also, when I think about it, vampire wasn't riding the vampire craze (there were vampire movies all through the 80s), it was riding the vampire PoV fad, which really seemed to take off in the 90s (before that I only remember Anne Rice doing it, but after tqhey made a movie of the book, it felt like every vampire anthology I read shifted to vampire PoV). Right now I am just starting to see movies and shows with the zombie PoV, or at least with sympathetic zombies. So maybe it is the right time for this product (have to admit though, I am still struggling to see how you make the zombie point of view work).

Worth noting that V:tM came out in 1991 whereas the Interview With the Vampire movie came out in 1994. So V:tM didn't get where it was by riding a pre-existing craze, it got where it was by a) appealing to a subculture RPGs had so far only enjoyed mixed results in appealing to (goths loved Anne Rice at the time, now tabletop RPGs are a major feature of most goth communities I'm aware of) and b) being in the right place at the right time to ride the wave when it showed up. (And who knows, maybe it even gave the wave a little initial momentum.)
