Zombies may be popular, but I'm not sure that lucid ones are, unless used in a tongue-in-cheek way.

No there was fairly recently a movie with a sentient zombie. He befriends a girl and keeps her safe from other zombies. I cant remember the name. Im sure someone here will point it out.

Warm Bodies.

Like i said upthread, the lucid zombie is a niche in the zombie movie genre.

Ronin

Thank you. I couldnt remember that name to save my life. But my point is that was a pretty mainstream movie.

Honestly, I thought that Warm Bodies was a parody of the supernatural romance genre.
"Meh."

Yeah, it is sorta taking the piss out of twilight, i think.

The lucid zombie thing is quite old - Bob in Day of the Dead, although he can't speak, is probably the first on film in modern times that i can think of.

There's also Colin and Falling Apart to name a couple more recent (ish) films to have the zombies being lucid. There's also one about zombie cops that i can't remember the name of.

Anyhoo, it isn't uncommon on film at the moment, which is why i said i understand the timing of the game and why it isn't exactly trend-setting.

Isn't there a British tv show where zombies are just kind of like regular people? ( I have seen ads on BBC America for it).

This game looks kind of interesting. Haven't really delved too deep but will keep an eye out as it gets closer to release.

Kuroth

The TV show Being Human had a girl that was usual pretty normal, but a zombie, when she was brought back from a ghost form.  Best character on that show.

Not really interested in this morbid sub-genre, but as far as the games go, Mark did make Ars Magica with Jonathon Tweet prior to his latter work.  So, it may well be a quite good game for those that want the setting.

Yeah, i can't remember what it was called.

The French show i mentioned up-thread is The Returned, which is on BBC 3 i think.

Both are basically angsty stuff (which is rife in WW products and modern tv these days) and clumsy social commentary, which is part and parcel of the zombie genre IMO.

You could make an argument that the denouement of Land of the Dead was pointing at intelligent zombies.  After they'd dealt with Dennis Hopper and his ilk, they left the rest of the folk of Fiddler's Green alone...

Yup. Although not exactly brain-boxes they have rudimentary intelligence, it seems.

There's also Burial Ground, a bizarre Italian flick where the zombies use garden tools to try to break into a building and hook someone out of an upstairs window with a scythe.

Damn, i know too many zombie flicks...

Of course Dead and Buried featured an entire town of zombies (of the non-flesh-eating yet entirely homicidal variety) who were all as intelligent as they had been in life.

Quote from: jeff37923;664999Why would you want to play this? Where is the connection between a Player and the character of a lucid zombie? Is this just some bizarre sociopolitical commentary?

This whole lucid zombie concept just causes a big What The Fuck reaction from me. Being part of the courageous, noble oppressed is not new - and is really the basis for the X-Men and the Rebel Alliance, but zombies? What, has every other supernatural creature like Vampires and Werewolves become too common and zombies are popular right now?

This is my reaction too. It also fails to understand the appeal of the WoD RPGs too.
