RPGPundit

What kids cartoon, past or present, would you love to see as an RPG?

Alternately, which one do you think SHOULD be made into an RPG, as in, it would be very successful?

Pirates of Dark Water
Thundarr the Barbarian
Korgoth of Barbaria (though that isn't for kids)

I know there are unofficial versions of the first two, but I'd love to see those done right.

W.I.T.C.H. could be the basis for an easy and colorful introductory RPG - exp. aimed at young girls (but who ever read the first issues of the comic book will agree how - then - it was written so to be enjoyable to a much wider audience).
For every idiot who denounces Ayn Rand as "intellectualism" there is an excellent DM who creates a "Bioshock" adventure.

I quite fancy running a Captain Scarlet game, which I think if you based it principally on the animated series could be reasonably successful (you know, for a RPG).

You need to hit the key 5 elements right

Cliche, Fellowship, Enigma, Anarchy, Combat

So

He-Man
Thundar Cats
G-Force
Winx
Invisible Network of Kids - low on combat though
Ben 10
Digimon

Like I said in other threads I really think the RPG market needs to focus on the 6-9 age group with simple RPG mechanics baked into card and board games that are expandable and kid friendly (not that the Japanese version of G-Force was at all kid friendly which is why in teh UK they cut hte ultra violence and added a narative summary from a little cute robot ... :) )

Gods yes.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

Another vote for Thundarr the Barbarian.

I know people say Gamma World is very close, but it's not. Gamma World is very much an old school exploration game, lethal as hell and mercenary in nature and that really does not work for the cinematic, heroic tone of Thundarr.

Also, the rather obscure "Bounty Hamster" could be fun.
New! Cyberblues City - like cyberpunk, only more mellow. Free, fully illustrated roleplaying game based on the Fudge system
Bounty Hunters of the Atomic Wastelands, a post-apocalyptic western game based on Fate. It\'s simple, it\'s free and it\'s in colour!

Actually, what we need is a Thundarr supplement for Barbarians of Lemuria, now that I think about it.

Oh baby, that would be sweet!

Avatar: The Last Airbender would be my top choice.

FWIW a Pirates of Dark Water RPG was released in 1994.

There was actually a real published boxed set for a Pirates of Dark Water RPG by Mindgames.  I own a copy.  The world book, map, and "character sheets" from here are from that game, though I think a same of the game system stuff is missing, as are a lot of the monster sheets.

Noble Knight Games has a copy here, though I wouldn't recommend spending $75 for it.

Awesome stuff guys. For the record there is a Mutant Future supplement (unofficial) for Thundarr. Cynthia Celeste Miller and myself have both tried to get Thundarr rights for publication of a game.

My way backburner setting "Second Sun" is a wink wink nudge nudge CAH setting for it, that I hope to someday get done. Right now I've only got a little bit written, and some of the pre-made archetypes/Templates need tweaking. (The Werewolf Swordsman I know needs a fix, but the Unintelligible Creature Warrior, Mystic Item Wielder and Sorcerer all work, among others.)

I personally feel we need: Transformers, Pirates of Dark Water, Thundercats, He-man, MASK, G.I Joe, W.I.T.C.H (sadly Witch Girl Adventures is way too complex.) Totally Spies (which I think has a knock off for a FATE based Spy game) and Galaxy Rangers  among others need some love in the gaming world. The problem is the license holders know these things can make money, or hope they'll make money and so sit on them like they're the Ark of the Covenant.
