SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Passion, idiosyncrasy and even outright pretention are no excuse for being a dick.

No. No they are not. But they do sometimes come as a package.

Also your new Ned Flanders icon kind of creeps me out. So if that's what you were going for...congratulations!

Not intentional, but not unexpected either. :D

But if you're not familiar with the source for this image, trust me, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Heh, sexy Marge was awesome.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

I fully support Crane using Cranespeak!!

But its not for me.

I'm not a Burning Wheel fan, but I must admit that Mousegard is a beautiful book and if I was a fan of animal fantasy I would probably have bought it.

I did enjoy LOTS of the setting elements in Burning Empires, and I found they translated to Traveller easily.

Quote from: Tyndale;877076Luke is just Luke, a impassioned and idiosyncratic game designer.  And I dig his passion - mostly.  Hell, I think game designers can learn a lot from his dedication and loyalty to his designs.

Crane is a brand. And that's smart today, especially for KS.

He asked for $25k to do his RPG and he got $108k because he knows his audience and he writes for them. That's all the proof in the pudding I need to know that Crane with the Cranespeak is giving his Crane-iacs what they want.

Quote from: Necrozius;877083"You must be THIS eloquently pompous to play this elfgame." haha whatever; we're just a bunch of fucking nerds playing make believe.

His marketing isn't different than hipster bars or pretentious dance clubs.

Making your audience feel exclusive is GOOD marketing, especially because it creates a barrier to entry. Instead of yet another "big tent" where everyone is welcome, Crane is creating a "small and special tent" for like minded gamers.

I don't see how that's much different than Raggi and his LotFP.

That may be among the GREATEST THINGS my eyes have ever seen!

:cheerleader: Now that was funny! Really captures the Top Gun-Miami Vice-Knight Rider 80s vibe.
