This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I do not apologize to the Portuguese for my ancestors eating Magellan. If anything, I owe them a debt of gratitude for introducing lungo porco preto to my diet. Delicious.

This reminds me that I should apologise for Cristoforo Colombo (correct Italian spelling) for kickstarting the colonization of the Americas and providing some early examples of the "Europeans vs. Natives" massacres.

There is a whole list of lamentations against TGG on BGG. Maybe the answer is in there.

https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2724788/tgg-negative-experiences-and-controversies

Regarding the "OK" sign, over here it never was associated with Fascists, Nazis and the like. It only has the positive meaning, which can be ironic when someone screws up. One can, literally, say "Yup, the OK sign is a Nazi symbol. Well researched!" while making the OK sign to deride something that is anything but.

The TwAtteraty often forget how many of their things only exist in the English speaking world. It would be really embarrassing for someone at a Con asking me "Are you happy with your accommodations?" only for me to answer with the OK sign and ending up being escorted outside the premises without having a clue as why.

This is just a super depressing thread. I went to Gen Con back around 2006 or 2007, and I would have liked to go back again if the chance arose. But not now. They just seem like a super hostile environment.

Last time I went to Gen Con was 2017 and I can't say I have any desire to return. Didn't notice much "wokeness" at the time but it's just too big for my tastes. Worth visiting for the spectacle, but not something I'd want to do more than once a decade or so (or less now, given their leftward shift). Not to mention, trying to register for events is a huge PitA. I used to go fairly regularly when they were in Milwaukee, but it was smaller then (though still the biggest gaming convention around).

These days I prefer smaller cons, like Gary Con or Gamehole. As they've grown they've started catering more to the left, but so far it's not too bad.

The OK hand signal comes from SCUBA diving so divers could nonverbally and visually at a distance in compromised visibility quickly indicate that were alright and their equipment was functioning as expected,  that they had enough air to continue the dive, etc.

Thumbs up means " I need to surface" or "let's end the dive right now" so divers needed something else to say " I'm fine, it's all good."

From there it spread to people working in loud environments like airports or at a distance in a place where shouting was not the best option, like a foreman on a balcony looking down at the factory floor asking if the broken lathe was working and set up properly again. For a lot of people it is a nonverbal synonym to thumps up thought it began as a replacement for it in a system where thumbs up meant the functional opposite.

Goes back even further than that.  Martin Van Buren was known as Old Kinderhook (his hometown).  The OK symbol goes back to a campaign sign in 1840.

Jeff Bergen and The Gaming Goat have now been banned from Origins
GAMA's statement:

"We do not tolerate harassment of convention participants in any form. Convention participants reported or caught violating this policy may be expelled without refund at the discretion of show management.

Harassment is any unwanted contact, which includes (but is not limited to): physical or verbal threats; unwelcome attention; stalking; unwanted photography or recording; offensive behavior; use of physical force; behavior that creates a disturbance or is dangerous; using sexually explicit or offensive language or conduct; excessive profanity; obscene gestures; use of racial, religious, sexual, political, gender, ability, ethnic slurs, or any other targeted comments which are intended to cause personal offense to another Origins participant, either in-person at the event or through social media channels."

Based on numerous instances brought to the attention of the GAMA organization, including on the GAMA Member Facebook page, the Board has determined that the actions of both Jeff Bergren and TGG-Games is in violation of this code of conduct and they have been expelled from the show as an exhibitor."

The ball is in Bergren's court at this point. Unless he was actively being a harassing twit (which he may have been, I don't know), he should explore legal action (especially as the above remarks could be construed as defamatory).

I would also like to note that the link Joey2K supplied also has a link to a BoardGameGeek page that details Bergren's failings (whether these accounts are true or not is another question; I haven't had the chance to review it -- yet).

Also, regarding the BGG link: next time one of our resident lily-livered wussies wants to whinge about Ocule's list, point them to that link and ask them if what's sauce for the goose is good for the gander.

You think people like Tubesnake worry about what happens to people that they have classified as Nazis?

What are the stats for the leather reins they used to whip him from horseback as they escorted him out? And were they white horses? That would have been awkward. And were they war-horses? because if so, did they remember their horses can attack too?

As a side note, my local Gaming Goat franchise has severed its relationship with TGG and is now Night Owl Games  ::)

Not really, but it's useful to pick out people for later shunning.

Like I said: what's sauce for the goose...

Why wait for later shunning when you can get your shunning in right now?

Quote from: Tubesock Army on September 20, 2021, 11:45:50 AMYou are aware that there are entire organizations, such as the SPLC, ADL and numerous antifascist organizations and accounts on social media who make it their mission to catalog racist activity, and doxx these people?

And these "entire organizations" are retarded human garbage that deserve a bullet.

Quote from: tenbones on September 20, 2021, 11:36:59 AMI'd rather support VengerCon or any other convention that actually wants to put gaming ahead of political bullshit.

I hope VengerCon is a huge success.

As I've said before, we need segregation in our hobby. Each side needs their own cons. I have zero interest in going to GenCon or Origins again.
