Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Is there any game that wouldn't be improved by the addition of Johnny Cash

The song "When the man comes to town" sounds just right when Johnny Cash sings it.  And it's a great song.

Also, I wear a lot of black.  So I like it when other people do, too.

Hurt is the new album, right?

Hurt was a runaway hit, a cover version of Nine Inch Nails' song. The video also attracted massive attention.

The work that Cash did with Rubin, starting in the 90s, helped Cash regained commercial success and exposure. Hurt was done much later, on American IV around 2002-03 and even further increased his exposure. His last hit before he and his wife passed away.

Ah.  I missed that one.

It's pretty good. I liked the original better, but the girlfriend disagrees with me. >.> OTOH, the rest of the redone songs were pretty much the worst thing ever. Cash has hits and misses. I love what I like, and ignore what I don't.

But old-school western mecha combat is...intriguing. It's too bad I'd run medival mecha combat D&D before I ran that.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

I´m a sucker for boom-chicka-boom.

That is: A raw, powerful style, conveyed with a booming voice, that it goes right to your gut. It´s stark, it´s no-nonsense, it borders the primordeal in regards to the human condition.

Go, listen to St. Quentin. Listen to "Wanted Man", listen to "He turned the water into wine". It´s honest, down to earth.

That´s what´s inspiring me.

I also get comparable kicks out of Leadbelly, Hank Williams or the early Lonnie Donnegan and Jimmy Driftwood. Or the Dubliners.

Stomping beats, that move rather slow, but with such a unstoppable momentum, that it carries Johnny´s voice in a way that it becomes a downright violent statement for the message of the songs. Like an RPG player, he excels at getting into the motivations of other people and dons them like perfect suit.

Go, listen to "Folsom Prison Blues", I recommend the St. Quentin Version, where Carl Perkins is on the guitar. Powerful, mind bogglin, unstoppable.

Johnny´s oevre also is so large, it´s a pastime to see where he went and what he did to the subjects at hand.

One of the areas where Cash excels is storytelling. For this listen, to one of his saga songs, or even moreso to "Belshazzar".

Johnny is rock & roll, rockabilly, original country, western, folk, storyteller, alternative , comedian and much more. And he´s Johnny Cash.

So you like his music. Now explain why he's a fit subject for hero-worship.

Huh?
He is a musician. If you ask me, one of the greatest.
He´s a music hero, because he made great music.

Cash didn´t cure cancer, you know.
He sang songs.

Is this a strawmen, or whatcha talkin about?

Read again the first couple of pages. Why is it so cool to put Cash in a game? Because he's idolised. Why is he idolised? Because he did some songs people like? I don't think so. I think Levi's answer is more correct than he might like to think.

Johnny Cash – lone badass in black. Gee, sounds familiar....

Huh?
Well, I don´t see it.

Cash  was nearly  always touring with friends & family.  Cash is  definitely a very social  persona.
Don´t see no loner badarse in him.

YMMV

I think hiss songs go great with any movie or game.

I think all is said and done in this thread for me.

Hum, that was a bit abrupt

I think that part of it is a lot of people are attracted to Christianity, but are repelled by it's Lawncrappers.  For some people, even if you don't believe Cash sings about a God that you wish you could believe in

It's similar to Nick Cave, except Nick Cave hasn't (yet) worked with Rick Rubin

NOTE:  Hank Williams III and Jerry Only also have valuable game-improving qualities.

Moriarty and David R have displayed great wisdom with their own choices.

Now I really wanna run a Fantasy Mission Force gonzo blender game.  It would make a nice capstone to an urban horror game: after the PCs have completed their trek from Normal Life into the hellish Real World, all manner of soopacrazy explodes on their faces like bukkake of the surreal.

And then the good guys would win because the alternative is really boring.
