The Haunted West KS seems to be doing just fine. It's plausible that this product would have not even be conceived of, let alone been successful, a decade or two ago.

I doubt wokeness will break the bank on companies in the RPG scene anytime soon. I feel like the "geek" scenes tend to have crowds that are just easier targets for those kind of movements. Whether it's white knights worried that the 1 girl in the gaming group will run off if they don't support her bullshit, or people in gaming companies trying to score social points for aping yesterday's virtue fashion.

Certain markets(automotive, motorcycles) know they can't get away with acting patronizing towards their customer base. Others(football) are quickly finding that out. But I don't think the rpg scene has that sort of strong core identity. I don't personally view that as a bad thing, we can all pick and choose the game that best appeals to us, so long as the distribution channels don't mandate our choices.

Oh look an  accusation of historical gatekeeping. If crowd funding,  document creation and cheap Chinese printing where available then there would have been nothing stopping  it from being published a decade ago or two ago.  What may effect it's success is the attitude of the author, the same author that advises Keepers to have NPC's shoot black PC's first.  I am sure the Harlem Hell Fighters will get a mention somewhere in the text.

How all of this ends for the hobby I honestly don't know, though I agree with others here, that one votes with dollars and that it's become increasingly difficult to avoid the politics. I've not bought anything from Paizo, but I have bought older edition POD stuff from WOTC, but won't be buying more. As much as the political correctness in many newer books is rather jarring to me (and don't get me started on the artwork...), the reality is that it's not just the products, but rather the kinds of new gamers this poison is producing. I'm at the point now where I'm looking into the authors, artists and company behaviour before I buy stuff at all. I've been gaming for almost 40 years now and it's my primary hobby, I'd be spending a *lot* more money, if not for the political correctness. Though I genuinely enjoy relying heavily on stuff from the 1970's and my imagination, the few books I do buy are small press OSR or reprints...with miniatures, it's exclusively very old recasts.

It's basically a BECMI clone, only it stops at level 14 for some reason. But since most people aren't familiar with BECMI or its economic systems, people think it's original and neat-o keen, and not a copy. It also uses perhaps the dumbest form of armor class, starting not at 10(9) and going up or down, but zero.
