The Key Book

A large, beat-up and heavily edited volume, this book was handwritten by the famous planetripper Marion Portonius as he visited them. Once you get the hang of the shorthanded script and abbreviations that pervade his notes, you will have in your hands not only one of the most comprehensive books on outer plane knowledge, but the incantations necessary to unlock the gates to those places.

Enchantments of the Steel Doppleganger

This scientific text contains page after page of technical diagrams and crafting instructions. If the instructions are followed, the reader can eventually create a steel replica of himself, down to the tiniest detail. Even non magic users have utilised this text to create their own metal double.

At the back of the tome are some arcane writings that if translated properly enable the maker of the Steel Doppelganger to imbue it with his own spirit and intelligence, allowing movement and speech from the double. However, unless the passages are then instantly re-spoken, but backwards, then the maker's spirit moves into that of the double for all time. If the passage is repeated properly, both forwards and backwards, then the maker may imbed his own consciousness into his metal double and back again by simply repeating the passages of transference when he wishes to do so.

Who knows how many steel doppelgangers are out there in the world with their creators' spirits trapped within, screaming, for all eternity?

The Elucidation Papers

This collection of papyrus scrolls tell of a reality hidden behind the veil of the everyday and mundane world inhabited by men, dwarves and elves. A shocking collection of tales that give a vision of a reality enforced upon us by overlords conducting an experiment of infinite complexity and callousness. Nothing will ever look the same again. Recitation of certain passages warp this reality and give a glimpse of what resides in the real world...or is it some foul joke by a mage of cunning repute? Once read, these papers are never forgotten. Conspiracies are everywhere; town elders are mererly caretakers of the experiment, the forests are stinking mires containing breeding vats that pump out the monsters which hunt in the night, music is the broken link in the chain, the thing that can set you free, the food that you eat is the congealed remains of your ancestors...

Is this a true glimpse of the real world or just another in a long line of cursed tomes?

I finally got around to compiling this, and added a few of my own to bring us out to a full twenty.

In my current campaigns, the secrets in the book could leave to multiple instances of PC-killing. I love it!
