This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: KoltarIF this book has really nice artwork or looks near "coffee table Art book" quality - then they will get a lot of sales amongst that non-gamer group.

Have you seen the cover art on the Player's Handbook? :haw:

Maybe there's a group that will buy anything that has furnaces on the cover. :keke:

On the other hand they might make a killing selling that Character Sheet. :)   The DMG doesn't look too bad, though hard to tell at small scale...and it's the one that'll drag in Dragonfolk.

It'll be interesting to see what the artwork on the inside of the book is like.  When 3e came out it really pushed the bar up for interior art, if for anything colour.  I know the faux horizontal writing guidelines were a problem for a few people but overall it was pretty good quality.

This thread brings to mind a recent observation of mine:

It's amazing how much more bloated rpg's have become in the past 10-20 years while actually becoming less complete.

Look at games like:

Mercenaries, Spies, & Private Eyes
TMNT & Other Strangeness
Prince Valiant
Moldvay D&D Basic

The were all:
1. relatively short
2. relatively cheap
3. complete games

Sure you could go out and buy supplements but there was all you needed for years worth of gaming right there in the main book.  (and I say this as a sucker for a snazzy supplement)

In summary I think that a good game writer doesn't need anymore than 150 pages.  Anything more than that had better be pure gold, but is unfortunately almost always wasteful junk.

Guys, I worked really hard on that joke. If you're not going to bite, I'm taking my ball and going home.
God in the Machine.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

Which one?  Elrond or the Black Mage?

For my own part I've been wanting to play a small fireball lobber ever since I discovered that Citadel once put out a perfect Black Mage miniature:

Back row, purple hat.

Scroll down for a detailed shot.
