This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Session Length and You

One game I am running is 7pm till 1am, the other is 12noon to around 9 pm. So I do not really fit your poll.

Bedrockbrendan

We do 4-6 hours. When i was younger, longer sessions were the norm though (starting at 5 pm and running well into 2 or 3 am). Right now 4-6 seems to do the trick.

We aim for a 5 hour game 1/week on Sundays.  Noon to 5pm.  Two of us have children and family responsibilities, so going too late just isn't an option anymore.

4-6 hours hits a sweet spot for me.  You have enough time for general chit-chat but you can still cover a lot of ground in the session.  Much longer and I think people tend to lose focus.  Much shorter and you just don't hit your stride.
When I say objectively, I mean \'subjectively\'.  When I say literally, I mean \'figuratively\'.
And when I say that you are a horse\'s ass, I mean that the objective truth is that you are a literal horse\'s ass.

There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all. - Peter Drucker

2-3 hours is the normal length. But usually a sitdown dinner and the rest are on top of the that. We have children and other commitments so even though we would love to go longer it just never works out that way.
Don\'t mess with cats we kill wizards in one blow.;)

The Butcher

Yeah, I too the 8-12 hour sessions of halcyon youth.

Nowadays I mostly play on week nights, 4 hour sessions (give or take an hour).

We did have a 7-hour splurge some months back which cost me dearly in terms of sleep time... :o

Silverlion

I can't vote because of your arbitrary time blocks!

We game from 2-4 hours depending on game, players and GM.

When I was younger we played upwards of eight hours.

Saturdays, through the afternoon into night, after grabbing and eating the usual junk food. Though last weekend's big meal at the BBQ joint was a brilliant idea.
Running: Dogs of WAR - Beer & Pretzels & Bullets
Planning to Run: Godbound or Stars Without Number
Playing: Star Wars D20 Rev.

A lack of moderation doesn\'t mean saying every asshole thing that pops into your head.

Lately I run 2 to 2 1/2 hours online.

Previous to that, I ran 6-7 hour in-person games.

They both have their advantages and disadvantages, but I have a lot less interest in marathons than when I was younger.
Wampus Country - Whimsical tales on the fantasy frontier

"Describing Erik Jensen\'s Wampus Country setting is difficult"  -- Grognardia

"Well worth reading."  -- Steve Winter

"...seriously nifty stuff..." -- Bruce Baugh

"[Erik is] the Carrot-Top of role-playing games." -- Jared Sorensen, who probably meant it as an insult, but screw that guy.

"Next con I\'m playing in Wampus."  -- Harley Stroh

RPGPundit

My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

RPGPundit

Yeah, in our game we take about an hour or so at the start of the game to just socializing, usually while we're waiting for our more chronically-late players.
