While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Quote from: Theory of Games;1131817How did Grim Jim leaving the group turn into SARS-COVID 19 splat?

Because Grim Jim's and Pundit's falling out was over disagreements about the virus response and many of us couldn't help ourselves. Plus, I doubt that there's anything that we could say here that would fix it, since Jim already dismissed Pundit as a conspiracy peddler on the level of an antivaxxer (his actual comparison in his video), and I'm not sure how they come back from that.

Though, I agree that losing Grim Jim is bad. Inappropriate Characters is a good show, and I've also been watching Jim's channel since before Pundit started making videos. He's "criminally undersubscribed", as they say. I always figured YouTube's algorithm screwed him over, but he also doesn't do himself any favors voicing unpopular opinions on both sides on the culture war, while being involved with and essentially taking one side of it. And the issue isn't just that his opinions are unpopular, but that they're alienating to most on the "anti-SJW" side and he tends to take a hardline stance on them, relying on weak arguments that he won't budge on. And it's only gotten worse since Brexit.

I'm not sure about Zak Smith or how much Pundit and him hate each other, but I might be interested to hear his side on the controversies, and how has been persecuted by the SJW mob affected his views on their politics, their impact on the hobby, etc.

Spinachcat

So what if Grim Jim and Pundit disagree? That's the whole point of a spirited discussion.

If fact, I'd suspect their vlogcast would be MORE interesting after this spat.

As for the Scamdemic, recessions do hefty damage to children and teens whose families suffer economic fallout. Not damage that lasts a couple months, but deep life-altering damage that scars a generation. Far better long term to sacrifice the old and the sick to save the future because the harsh reality of civilization does mean the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. That doesn't sound "nice", but what's really not "nice" is a global recession that deepens generational poverty and income inequality.

Not the "income inequality" idiot noise of leftists, but the unfortunate reality that recessions create winners and losers, both locally and globally.

Quote from: RPGPundit;1131734As a whole, yes. But if you're actually a person under 60 without pre-existing conditions, that is to say, the majority of people of working age, your mortality rate is actually around 0.02%. And those can most likely be attributed to undiagnosed pre-existing conditions.

Very true, but I didn't even want to bring that up because even the overall numbers blow holes through this thing being some out-of-control pandemic. If you start saying stuff like "It really only affects old people, or fat diabetics" they'll claim you're "uncaring" or something. Science has been replaced with feels.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

Looking at just one precondition, hypertension, we find roughly 45% of adult Americans. While it's a minority, these are not just small groups we're talking about.

RPGPundit

Quote from: jhkim;1131773And where the balance is depends strongly on where you are. The malnutrition deaths are highly concentrated in Third World countries. For countries with major malnutrition, then malnutrition may easily outweigh covid-19 deaths. But within the U.S., there are roughly 2000 malnutrition deaths per year (ref). So within the U.S., doubling the malnutrition deaths would be less than 1% of covid-19 deaths.

Yes, that's true, the deaths from hunger will mostly  not be American deaths. But the rampant poverty that the shutdown will have caused, with huge unemployment numbers, will probably lead to an increase of childhood malnutrition.

But yes, most of the deaths in the US will be caused by suicide and an increase in violence/crime.

Quote from: DocJones;1131778I know a number of people who have been completely terrified by the media they watch.
GrimJim sounds like one of them.

Well, he's very publicly a socialist, so we already know he's extremely gullible.

I wouldn't do a show with Zak. I'd do one with Raggi, though.

The USA won't have starvation deaths. Our dumpsters have more fresh food in them than many 3rd world grocery stores.

The recession caused by the lockdown will mostly fuel "quiet deaths", aka, suicide, drug overdose and homelessness. However, the deaths will be the lesser concern. The greater problem is the recession will destroy many families and impoverish many others, all causing lasting harm to the children. As recessions do the most damage to the poor and working class, the lockdowns will deepen generational poverty.

All for the sniffles!!

Ah but things have totally changed since you made your video.   It would not surprise me in the least if I heard that GrimJim was marching with the other socialists from Trafalgar square to the US embassy to oppose police brutality in the USA.

Hey maybe you could do your Inappropriate Characters videos with Shannon Appelcline! *snicker*

Is Marc Rein(dot)Hagen now considered "inappropriate"? That would be funny.

Hey Venger, good to see ya. Glad IC is continuing, though I'm very sad that it couldn't be with Grim, but I get it. Things are rough. I hope all the KS stuff you have in flight is going well? Last update I saw with the cover art was rad. Looking forward to listening to the discussion tomorrow.

In response to the observation that SJWs are losing their power. I agree and I think it is happening more quickly outside the gaming world than within.
What Republicans have to fear is the day that the SJWs lose all their power. Because the only thing either party really has going for it right now is pointing at the other. When the Democrats are not obviously horrible also, the Republicans will have a choice between being less horrible and being unelectable.

The layout is going.  It's usually a bumpy road getting from the first look to finished product.  But I spare the KS backers from that sort of thing.  FYI, I had the artist add a little bit to the sorcerer's eyes.
