This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

As a form of penance for my transgressions, I have also ordered the Blueholme Prentice Rules; because I have no prior experience with any form of BX.  I need to see how that compares to Original D&D, via White Box - Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game.

I never understood spending hard earned money with a business that obviously hates you.  There are plenty of good ideas and products out there offered by people who don't.

I never pay them with hard earned money when I can use Ardern bucks.  Pass them along as fast as you can before they lose all value.

As penance, I used to mail them to the Trove. Now I just don't spend money on them, I borrow them, read, and laugh.

I'll still get a copy (in whatever form is cheapest) if I really want the game. Unlike the insane far-left that will boycott everything they don't agree with, I can separate the art from the artist.
Same here.
I'm not going to abstain from an enjoyable experience just because I disagree with the creator (or one of the creators) on something political.
Wouldn't serve any purpose, either, as the number of people doing that are so low they practically never make any kind of difference.
If purchasing a product that someone was involved with who you don't like for some reason makes you feel bad, well... do what you gotta do, I guess. But it really just sounds petty to me.

It's different when the politics parts I disagree with become a major focus of the product, of course.
But then it wouldn't be an "enjoyable experience" for me anymore, either, so I wouldn't want to purchase it to begin with.

Au contraire, start singing the praises of said book. And mix the praises with right wing talking points or better yet Images/gifs.

That might send The Mob after them, because to them if some terribad person follows you/likes your stuff/re-tweets/etc it must mean you're also a terribad person.

Do not use their own vile tactics. They do this to people, and eachother. The minute we start doing it they will use it as ammo and "proof". Not to mention it just drags us down to their degraded level. Let them eat their own.

Doing what I proposed isn't me using their tactics, it's me knowing how they will react and letting them eat each other.

Make them live under their own rules. Until we understand that this must be done we stand ZERO chance of ever winning back our culture/freedoms.

I regret it, feel sad for a while, and then move on without ever patronizing them ever again. This applies to other products like video games and books too. If I feel particularly offended then I might hold a grudge against them forever.

Vote with your dollars and your feet, because every purchase counts.

Yes, it's a drop in the bucket...but have you ever seen the rain fill a bucket?

More importantly, it's about taking a personal stand in a culture which increasingly hates and spits upon those with "wrongthink". It's a point of self-respect to say NO whether it's to a food company, a tech company, Hollywood or a game designer.

Quote from: Jam The MF on November 20, 2021, 05:20:53 PMI have wanted to "borrow" ideas from the product, without giving the authors my money.

Used books via eBay or Amazon sellers. You get the product and the author gets nothing.

Or wayward PDFs floating in the darker ethers of the magical interwebs.

But I'm now at the point of not running any games from the woke freaks because beyond not giving them my money, I refuse to give them my time in promotion of their brand.

They don't want you to buy their stuff? Buy it and cut out the pages of woke nanny state x-card bullshit. Make sure to let them know because it will piss them off. If you're moved by the argument that you're financially supporting the enemy, offset that with a donation to a good cause.

Its Mongoose. Their rep for half-assing their product goes way back to when they were doing those junky so called "slayers guides" in the early 2000s.

I can understand that now, but I've been lucky to be involved with five Traveller related playtests over the last few decades. The MGT2e playtest was the worst experience of them all and I find it funny that the suggestions ignored then are being implemented now. I wonder how better their sales would have beenover the past six years if Mongoose would have listened to its playtesters.

Edited because I'm becoming a boomer and no longer know how to do the whole quote-response thing.

Are those same suggestions applicable to Cepheus Engine? Meaning do they need to change the same stuff?

I've bolded what I think is GeekyBugle's question, but I'm a little confused by its placement.

The suggestions do not apply to Cepheus Engine, in fact one of them is why Cepheus Engine exists in the first place. When it looked like the TAS licensing Mongoose wanted was going to jeopardize the IP rights of all of the Third Party products created for Mongoose Traveller 1e, playtesters and publishers pointed out that Mongoose Publishing was going to be creating the same relationship that formed between WotC and Paizo when they did this. TAS was implemented and Cepheus Engine came into being as a result - without the problems of MGT 2e that were pointed out.
