This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'd be up for a new sci-fi game, something with a rocking premise and setting like Cold Space and FTL but with (no offence, flyingmice & co.) a decent system.  By "decent," I mean completely subjectively something I'd like, of course...  :keke:   I'm thinking a light, dynamic little system that gets out of the way of adventure.   If it has figured attributes, it's too complex!

Moreover, I'd be up for one core book and up to three supplements total, not per year.  I've been buying lots of standalone games in the last few years, probably as many as other people buy sourcebooks, but I am effing done with the splatbook treadmill.  If a game has 12 clan/tribe/faction/race/class books and 30 setting books, I'm out.  If I can't fit the collection in a normal size satchel when I go to the game, I'm out.

That's not to say the core system can't be used to power any number of independent settings (just like Hero, GURPS, WoD, or PDQ can power several different games), just that I don't want all the books to be necessary for a given campaign.

Nothing to possibly be offended at, Anemone. Systems are seen purely aesthetically - what is a light dynamic system for one may be a lugubrious chore for another. I try to aim for the middle ground, personally, but if d4-d4 is crunchy for you, then my system will be like Phoenix Command. :D

Actually, I own both Cold Space and FTL Now.  Fantastic setting, and someday I'll get off my behind, pick a system I'm comfortable with, and run a few games...  :deflated:

A Book of the New Sun RPG, written by Jonathan Tweet, with production values like Artesia.

A re-edition of Agone, but with new rules please, kthx.

A scifi RPG based on Lem or the Strugatskijs.

A scifi RPG based on early 20th-century hardcore Soviet communist techno-utopias. But without a shred of irony.

Thank you! If you ever do run them, let me know what system you used and how it went! You're not the only person who prefers light mechanics. If it goes well, I could recommend it. :D

This will be damn hard to translate into an rpg. Remember the GURPS version? But I think Tweet is the designer to do it.

Oh fuck. AND it's based on a comic book.

There was a GURPS version? Huh.  Must have been during my years off of gaming.

I really have to dig those up and read them again.

I love my bourgeois fairytales, though I plan on using HeroQuest rather than d20.
