This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Greyhawk will feature in the #onednd DMG. If you are a fan, you should NOT be happy about this.

I suspect this is to re-affirm their copyrights and trademarks.

wotc is notorious for letting copyrights they acquire slip through their inept fingers.

I think it probably has more to do with it being the 50th anniversary. So they wanted to ruin one of the earliest D&D settings.

A copyright lasts for the life of the author plus 70 years. You don't have to "re-affirm" it.
A trademark does need to be used in some fashion and needs to not become genericized, but I really doubt that this is a problem for "Greyhawk".

Ok anyway, I'm going to rain on Pundit's parade a bit here.  I'm gonna predict that Greyhawk will be in the DMG as a map, some place names, and the ability to start a campaign in some spot.  I would hope that the gods would be listed with some brief descriptions. In 3.X, Greyhawk as a default setting (across all the books) also had some further ramifications, like being able to be a cleric of good, instead of picking a god (forgotten realms has never allowed such an option), but this actually showed up as a core capability of the 3.0 cleric, with setting-specific material stripping it away in most cases.

In other words, I don't think they need to actually pick a fight here in the DMG, or engage in random anti-traditionalist attacks.  I will definitely agree that this would be their first priority if they actually announce Greyhawk as a full setting.

That's not really "raining on my parade", in the video I state that what you describe is possible, and it would be the "best case scenario", or really, the least bad option.

Since this is wotc we are talking about. Expect worst case scenario. Especially after the things they say in the 50th anniversary book interview and who knows whats in the book itself.

We know the DMG is going to be a mess if Perkins has his way.

I doubt they will go full on hate screed. But would not surprise me if they had some disclaimer in the Greyhawk entry warning the reader about how "racist" and "problematic" the setting is.

I'm sure they'll tease Greyhawk as a means to convince suckers to buy the book, only to find the GH material is minimal at best.

Not biting.

Oh, is it the 3e "Greyhawk" push again?

They don't need to do those things.  That doesn't mean they won't do them.  They never actually need to do any of those things and doing them is counter-productive but they do them anyway.
