This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

i found an outrage thing

Quote from: JRT;820461In case people are curious, MCG is discussing the issue here on their Facebook page.

I smell cave-in. If The Strange gets another printing, I expect the SJWs will get their way...and it will embolden them.

That would be a great opening line for a Sepultura song. I can totally hear the drums.

Quote from: Necrozius;820478I'll just make shit up. It's politically and sociologically safer that way.

Has anybody actually gone in and read the thread rather than just commenting on the existence of it?

It seems like MCG is willing to discuss it openly with people, and based on what I've read it doesn't look like they'll be changing anything.

It's probably better to be open and willing to have a dialog, because unless an opponents argument is sound, it will end up being debunked.  I think automatically dismissing the opponents in a rude or curt manner actually does more to embolden bad behavior.

Quote from: kobayashi;820468I'll go with Stephen Fry on this one :

"It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what."

I'm not a fan of Stephen Fry, but he makes a lot of sense on this one.
"Meh."

When MCG got hit with the Nibovian Wives thing, they doubled down by including even more Nibovian content in the Ninth World Bestiary.

I doubt we'll see a Thunder Plains glimmer out of this, but I'd be shocked if they actually backed down.

I shamefully admit that I do it out of fear.

I blame you exactly 0%.

I am working on some RPG stuff with some faux-Egyptian stuff and my playtesters are concerned about me putting out anything pro or con about the faux-Kushites in the setting. If I publish it, the SJWs may come rushing with their whining outrage. Fortunately, I am stocking up on bean burritos so I can power crap down their throats. My plan is to treat them like the second link in a human centipad.

Without knowing him, Monte Cook strikes me as an exemplar of Midwestern niceness. The problem for the SJWs is once they start alienating all the folks like that who basically are the decent salt of the earth - in tangible terms of economic and social capital - their game is over.

I don't blame you. I wonder how many others feel exactly the same way.

Unfortunately, I think that's exactly what a certain group wants.

Six months ago (if I remember weill), I saw a tumblr post which called Monte Cook a terrible racist person for a 2 pages description (from a 400 + book) of a generic fantasy Native American setting which has not a simple sherd of pretense being an accurate descrpition of real Native American cultures. Now it has evolved in a online petition which has 357 signatures (of 6 billions human beings).

Not sure it will improve the lot of Native Americans or the important effort against racism but at least it has renewed my interest in the Strange.

Remember folks, using a historical culture to base your fictional culture on is racist and appropriation.  Unless you're doing it to a white European culture.  Then it's fine.

*Edit*  Wow, reading this back again without the sarcastic smiley I forgot to put in give it a much different meaning and makes me sound like a whiner.

Oops.
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.
