This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Shrug. Dune is probably the most expensive thing I own. Although I did pay over a hundred dollars for a Chill supplement. I think I paid a lot for the Pooka book for Changeling, too...

Form the group wisely, make sure you share goals and means.
Set norms of table etiquette early on.
Encourage attentive participation and speed of play so the game will stay vibrant!
Allow that the group, milieu and system will from an organic symbiosis.
Most importantly, have fun exploring the possibilities!

I think I would grab my Over the Edge, 1st edition. It's not rare or expensive but it's by far the book I flicked through the most and had most fun reading. We go way back, that book and I.

Runners up would probably by the signed Ptolus: City by the Spire or Delta Green.
Running: Call of Cthulhu
Playing: Mainly boardgames

My Qin rulebook, it's not the most valuable or most sentimental game I own but it's what I like the most.

Marvel Superhero Adventure Game. It be the last of things I worried about, of course, but assuming every dog and person was out, it would be that one.

Assuming, I could grab it on the way out, the D&D Rules Cyclopedia. Otherwise, nothing. Getting my wife, myself and all dogs/cats out is more important than any book.

My answer: 2e Dragonquest book (although my Stormbringer 2e boxed set would be a close second and would console me if the DQ book was out of reach). Everything else I own would be much easier to find and replace, and besides if I started even trying to think about what other game book I'd grab I'd get stricken with indecision and would let 'em all burn.

I have DragonQuest! SPI's DragonQuest, right? I love that game. That and Universe. I think the last time I ran it was two Bush presidencies ago, but still.

DragonQuest rocked.

I would save my iPad cause that gives me 40 or so games (see?), but answering in the spirit of the question: Over the Edge.

Does a CD-ROM count? If so, my Traveller CD (or all three if possible).

This is a tough one. With little time to make a decision I'd probably grab my Call of Cthulhu corebook.

You see the point I was glibly trying to make was that the only stuff worth saving is the stuff you have done yourself.
You can replace a copy of ADRPG or the Rules Cyclopedia, but you can't replace the character sheets, old notebooks, hombrewed rules that are paper copy only.

A caveat is of course the stuff that is actually worth money cos you would never replace that even if you could claim on the insurance

Yeah :) I have both the 2e DQ softcover and the 1e boxed set. Have a copy of Universe as well. DQ was the first fantasy RPG I bought that wasn't D&D, although I had Melee and Wizard as well. I love DQ as well, although it has it's warts :) I can still read through all the demons that can be summoned and enjoy the heck out of it. Love the magical colleges.
