If you ever get a chance to pick up a book called "Barlowe's guide to extra terrestrials" get it. It's an illustrated guide to dozens of aliens from classic and famous SF novels.

The authors, a writer and an artist who are both trufhen, picked a load of races from great SF novels and got permission to do illos and descriptions of them, and the result, "Barlowe's guide to E.T.s" has become a SF collectors item for decades.

ANyway, I suggest if you're looking for ideas to make races for SF games or even fantasy settings it can be a big help, plus the illos can be copies and handed out to players as a visual refference.

theres a "Barlowe's Guide to Fantasy as  well if you want ideas or illos for your fantasy games.

Good call. Never saw it myself. Liked the guide to E.T.s but always wondered why they put in puppeteers and not kzinti....

Don't forget Barlowe's Expedition book, featuring a boatload of alien animals and a wonderfully worked out ecology.It was made into a two part TV programme for Sky's Discovery channel.
